Every name my husband likes is super popular.

They’re all family names. Like Rose, Isabelle, Sophia, Marie etc etc. so I get it, but also I just cringe because they’re all over the baby sites and it feels like everyone is using them. But there’s no other family names (yes we want family names) that we can agree on. Am I destined to just have 5 other kids in my daughter’s class with the same name? 😔

I feel like Rose and Marie are more often middle names, and I haven’t met any children with those as first names 😊

I’m personally a fan of using a different variant of family names to make them more unique! If you think Rose is too common, you could use something like Rosalie, Rosette, Melrose… Maren for Marie, Isabeau for Isabelle, etc. Just a thought! 💕

@Eve this is what I said! He said no 😅

@Freya thank you. I think this app overwhelms me sometimes because I feel like I always see those names come up over and over

They've all lasted for a reason.... they're all solid but I like Rose and Isabelle the most

Have you checked middle names as well as first names? I find middle names are often more unusual/ varied so may give you more options.

I honestly don’t think you’ll get 5 other girls in the same class with the same name, even if you pick something popular. Lots of other mums will have had the same thought so won’t have picked it. Pick something you love, it doesn’t matter if there’s another kid out there with the name if you love it ☺️

My son has a top 10 name for his birth year and we haven't met another kid with the same name yet and he's now 4. I'm pregnant again and the name we've picked out also happens to be in the top 10 for girls names and so far I've only met one other child with her name. Popular names don't really have the same meaning as they did 20 years ago. I doubt very much your child will be 1 of 5 with the same name so try not to let that put you off and just focus on choosing a name both you and your partner love 🥰

@Cece great idea, unfortunately these are the middle names! First names in the tree are like Edna, Muriel, Simone, etc. 😅

@Sarah honestly this is how I feel about Rose, I’m so annoyed he suggested it but I can’t stop thinking about it.

@Joanne that’s actually so helpful, thank you

What about Mariella, Mariana, Marina, Roselise, Rosabelle

We use family names in the middle, solves the problem

@Marie I read these out to him and he just stared at me 😂 I think I might have to accept it.

What about a name with a unique nickname or a unique name with a common nickname like: Savannah nn Vanna Rosalind nn Rose/Indi Juliette nn Jette Azaria nn Aria Penelope nn Nellie Arabella nn Belle Sophia nn Fia Gabriella nn Brielle/Riella Scarlett nn Lettie Caroline nn Callie

I feel that the woman should have more sway in the name than the man, you’re pregnant with the baby and doing all the work, maybe he’s helping but it’s different. So I pulled my weight with our boys names. I’d say push for what you want, I don’t like popular names either honestly.

I have a Lillia and Ellora for this reason 😅. I do like classic names too though. Like Evelyn, Rosie, Sofia, Elsie, Norah etc x
