Baby sleep

My daughter has been coughing while she sleeps, but it sounds like a mucous cough. Like one of those wet ones where you gag trying to get the loogie out? And idk how to help her 😩 it gives me a heart attack every time I hear her coughing at night. When I go to suck out her boogers nothing comes out. Help! 😭😭😭

A humidifier would help with the mucus if she does have any. Unfortunately there isn’t any medicine for babies that would help in your situation with the cough. It’s possible she has developed a cold and is a bit congested. If it continues I would suggest taking her to see her pediatrician who can confirm a cold. A hot steamy shower before bed will also help to loosen a lot of the mucus build up. Lots of water and milk to keep her hydrated is also a good idea if she does have some kind of cold. Possible allergies could cause the mucus build up as well. Using a saline solution that you spray in her nose that is safe for babies is also helpful for loosening the mucus in her nose. The cough should fade in a week or so.

Like the mom that posted above, the biggest issue I’ve been dealing with is remembering to run the humidifier at night. Sometimes I’ll wake up with the baby and we’ll both be stuffy. I’ll just put him in his bouncer and sit in the steamy bathroom with him for a bit in the morning and then we’re fine afterwards. I also know there’s a product you can use to loosen up mucus in little ones but I’m blanking on it 😭

Not to scare you, but my little just got Covid. He was coughing and I thought it was a lingering cough from his July 4 cold but nope. I did an at home nasal swab and it was positive. He’s getting better but was not fun.
