My fasting readings were the ones really giving me issues and I was advised to eat dinner before 7pm and to have a late night snack. Apparently when we don’t eat for a long time our liver releases a bunch of glucose and this is what causes our high fasting readings. But I couldn’t get them under control at all and apparently it’s very hard to control fasting levels without medication. I’ve just started medication and had my first fasting readings within target!
Here are some ideas that might help but fasting is the most difficult for lots of people and you might not be able to control it without medication. https://www.gestationaldiabetes.co.uk/high-fasting-levels/
Hi there! I’m an expert in GD nutrition and I’m happy to help. First, I know this can be frustrating, and fasting readings are what most people struggle most with. You’re not alone! Second, fasting readings can have a lot to do with what you ate the day before. It takes about 24 hours (or longer) for everything to go through your body. And this can affect you longer than you realize. Third, what you’re eating in the morning, as well as if you’ve had any movement (walking a bit, stretching, etc) can make a huge difference. I’m happy to look at your food log and give you my thoughts on little easy ways you might see a change in your fasting results. Feel free to DM me!
My fasting numbers where the issue for me. Post meal ones where fine - even if I are white bread etc. Could not get fasting ones under control- and consultant advised there was nothing I could do to try - it it simply my hormones and placenta causing it. So I ended up on metaformin and insulin at bedtime to control them
I had my second appointment and they said to give it a couple more days and if I had any other high ones to call back and they'd put me on metformin. So far they've still been high but not over the threshold, I've never got lower than a 4.9😂
I’m on medication but the general advice they’ll give you is eat before 8pm, go for a walk afterwards and no midnight snacks but they’re always understanding if you have a little treat here and there
