Victoria General

Hi ladies! Stupid question alert, but it's the first time I am having a baby in this country (my first was born overseas) and I have started putting together my hospital bag. I will be giving birth to Victoria General and I was wondering what do they provide for the mom and new born? (E.g., diapers, postpartum pads for mom, formula if needed etc). Do they provide bottles too? Thank you in advance.

I'm in Victoria general right now, just had my baby . They give you a squirt bottle for down there , blue clothes , diapers , swaddle blankets but they were skimpy on the blankets and pillows for my partner. My first daughter only got formula when she was in NICU and her sugars were low. Otherwise I've been breastfeeding which they encourage and even provided me a very expensive and awesome pump while I was here. I got pads and more towels in the bathroom and they give you pamphlets and a hat for your baby. The formula they give comes in a bottle and they give you extra nipples least that what I got when they had my baby in NICU. Good luck and hope your delivery goes well 🥰

Hi! They supply all the essentials. For baby they provide diapers, formula if needed, I’m not sure about bottles since we BF (but i believe it comes in small single use bottles). They don’t supply wet wipes, just cloth wipes that you needed to dampen with water. So wet wipes are handy for those first poops. I brought some vaseline with me to help keep the meconium from sticking to babes skin (I had been given some in 2020 at the Comox hospital but wasn't offered any at VGH in June). For Mom theres mesh undies, jumbo pads, a basic peri bottle. They stock everything in fairly small amounts but restock as needed (which was different than my last experience where they gave extra and encouraged you to take any home).

One small thing, I had a c-section and with my first baby they monitored my pain and had me on a schedule for pain meds - I never had to ask for it. It was very busy when I gave birth and I think some info got missed being passed to me that they wouldn't automatically give me any on my schedule unless I asked for it. So I had been waiting and ended up being in quite a bit of pain. I wasn’t even sure what interval I was able to get medication at. So if this is something you end up needing just be sure to ask.

@Kelsey congratulations!! Thank you for all the info ❤

Thank you all for the very usefull info. It seems like they provide more than I imagined. In the UK, where I gave birth before you would not get a peri bottle or baby clothing items!
