Buying for baby

Hello, I am nearly 20 weeks and haven’t bought anything yet, I have had a few losses and horrible experiences which has made me really nervous, but I am starting to want to enjoy this baby and pregnancy now. When will everyone start looking as nursery things and things for baby? Is 20 weeks too soon?

I had my girl June 23 and prior to her had 2 losses so completely understand the anxiety and being nervous to buy. I waited until after the 20 week scan and then bought the odd thing. Nursery things we started getting around 28/30 weeks (probably a bit later than usual, though we moved at 35 weeks and she was late at 42 weeks so was enough time still). However some prams etc. can have 6 week lead times and rocking chairs if you get one new can be even longer. Definitely worth starting to look at and if you want to buy go for it. Might be worth waiting until Black Friday sales for some things. I found the John Lewis & Mamas & Papas buy for baby appointments helpful for putting my list together, didn’t buy on the spot and can feel overwhelming but was good research. Really it’s whenever you feel ready. Maybe start with a baby grow/socks and go from there.

I too had a loss before this pregnancy, a molar pregnancy which was horrific. I’m a second time mum though so I have quite a lot of stuff, I’m going to wait to see how my 20 week scan goes. Tbh I did a whole nursery for my first and he didn’t go in it till 7 months old so I wouldn’t stress 😂xx

I also want to start buying stuff 😩

I think I’ll start buying the odd few things once my 20 week scan is here but it’s just whatever you’re comfortable with! Hoping everything goes well xx

Yes mama and papas said you can order through them, they will hold it and if you don’t go through with the order for any reason they’ll refund you. Maybe go for an appointment there and see what feels right x

I started last month getting the big things (I'm 18 weeks). I bought a pram last month and the crib and changing table this month. I'm not rushing too much with the smaller stuff because if you have a registry and baby shower, you'll be overwhelmed with so many things like clothes, nappies, wipes etc. I just wouldn't tax any of my friends with buying the more expensive things

I'm sorry to hear about your losses, Mama. I understand the anxiety, but please try to look forward to the future with your beautiful rainbow baby. Wishing you all the best throughout the remainder of your pregnancy 💕
