How is everyone that’s given birth coping with their newborns?

We had our boy early September and he still won’t sleep anywhere but on us which is making night time an absolute pleasure 🫠 Breastfeeding is going well though so that’s a bonus I guess? Hope everyone else is doing well and those of you that haven’t had yours yet have happy and healthy deliveries x

Little man is brilliant during the day as soon as bedtime hits he only wants to fall asleep in my arms! 🙄

@Sian feeeeeeel you!! Although mine is shit day and night with sleep 😂 he’s currently asleep in his pram bassinet and has been for about 45 minutes so maybe this is his new daytime bed!

Glad I’m not alone! I know it’s normal and was the same with my first but I can’t remember for the life of me how we got her to start sleeping in a bassinet 🤦‍♀️

We put a hot water bottle in the next to me whilst I’m doing the last feed, I’m also putting my LO’s swaddle/sleep bag in my top/bra for a few hours each evening so it smells like me and I’ve found that definitely helps. Controversial but we have used a dummy just at night time to help her settle as all she seems to want to do is be on the boob for comfort xx Definitely doesn’t go down all night but 2/3 hours at a time makes all the difference x

@Jaime this is my first and I’m at my wits end with him sleeping 😂 he won’t sleep anywhere but on me!! Everyone keeps saying it’ll ‘click’ for him by like 6 weeks… but will it?! 😂

@Chloe I’ve tried using my smell and I don’t think he cares 😂 the second I put him in the Moses basket is like a time bomb! He’ll start to fuss, wake up then cry! I’m really debating giving him a dummy at night and just setting timers for his feeds as I’m EBF. How have you found a dummy? My lad is 12 days old now and I’ve resisted up to now as I’m worried!

Hi ladies, Very much in the same boat, my son is 10 days old and as soon as we put them down he wakes straight up. I'm breastfeeding that he seems to use my nipple as a comfort blanket so not getting a lot of sleep either. Seeing this chat makes me feel like I'm not on my own ❤️

I’m 5 days pp and really didn’t want to use a dummy as EBF too! But she’s been fine with it! She still wakes herself up for feeds and I set a timer just in case! Will try to phase it out once we get her a bit more settled but for now it’s a god sent xxx

@Becca I could have written your comment myself!! 12 days old and uses me as a pacifier. I’ve just fed him for 35 minutes, put him in the Moses basket basically passed out and all I can see are his legs and arms flailing around 🫠 You’re definitely not alone ❤️ I just hope something clicks for them soon! Me and my partner are having to take shifts contact napping with him over night under circumstances we don’t really want to do… we only have memory foam mattresses as well so cosleeping isnt really ideal!!

@Chloe you’re giving me hope for my boy haha I’d love a 3 hour stretch overnight where I don’t have to cosleep on the sofa with my partner forcing himself to stay awake 🫠 might have to cave and give him a dummy! Xxx

Honestly we were exactly the same! You just need to do what works in the early days I think! Xx

Also… do you think he could be in “active sleep” ? They often kick and wriggle around, my LO even lets out noises, the odd cry and occasionally opens her eyes but she’s asleep…! X

@Chloe yeah 1000% we’re all just surviving atm 😂 I wish it was active sleep haha! I give him maybe 5-10 mins of flailing as long as he’s not crying and I look in the basket, he’s just there with the widest eyes I’ve ever seen 😂🫠 xxx

Oh bless you!!! Hopefully he’ll settle tonight xx

I gave up with the crib after a few nights of no sleep and we’re cosleeping now. I fought it for a few weeks with my first but I didn’t have the energy this time around. He’s slept in 3-4 hour stretches for the last two nights. I’m waking up so achy because I’ve stayed in the exact same position I fall asleep in but at least I’m sleeping for more than 20 minutes at a time 😴

@Hope I really wanna co sleep as well but the only beds in our house are memory foam and it’s apparently a no no :( he’ll sleep over 3-4 hours if co sleeping as well which makes it more shit that I can’t do it 😂 xx

My baby is 6 days old and I'm so relieved to hear other mamas saying the same. Me and my husband joke that it's like we have 2 different babies, during the day he's so chill and happy and barely cries. He'll happily sleep in his moses basket downstairs and is just a perfect angel. Then when we come up to bed at night it's all scream crying and refusing to settle 😩 We feed, wind, cuddle, swaddle, give him a dummy and nothing helps until about 3am when he'll finally sleep for a couple of hours after tiring himself out. Then it's time to wake him for a feed again 😅

Oh that’s frustrating. I don’t know if you have the space in your room but a cheap single mattress on the floor could give you the option if you just get too tired. It’s so draining when they won’t sleep but it does end! My older boy is such a good sleeper now but at the beginning it was easily the hardest and worst thing about being a parent.

@Kim I feel that!!! My son is now in his Moses basket, actually sleeping for now 🙃 health visitor also advised use a dummy but we’ve not been able to test the theory ourselves yet as he’s actually gone down in it. I really hope you manage to get some sleep soon and have him settle on a regular basis! Ours gets fussier at night and won’t really go down but thankfully he’s not much of a crier he just wants to feed and cuddle 😂

@Hope I’m seriously debating it! Do you know if it has to be a spring mattress or something then if you can’t use memory foam? I can’t really find much online 🫠 I hope my boy follows in your boy’s footsteps haha! It’s definitely the hardest thing so far, the nipple pain and nappies and everything else just pales in comparison to how bad the lack of sleep has been for us!

I think it just needs to be a firm mattress. Ours is half memory half sprung but it’s firm so doesn’t sink down. Just getting a few hours sleep in a row makes so much difference!
