First Christmas!

I know most of us are in a similar situation. I was having a conversation with family and being told I'm heartless because I'm not doing a huge first Christmas for my baby this year because baby will only be a few weeks old. Am I really a monster? Baby will only be max 3 weeks old

No don’t be silly. They won’t remember it plus your going to be recovering. Don’t be too hard on yourself xx

Whaaaat! Mine won’t be having anything, apart from my boobs which is all he’ll want 🤣 I have a toddler who Christmas will really be for this year but even he doesn’t understand it at all as he’s only 19 months. Just enjoy these couple of years where you don’t have to really ‘do’ Christmas for them as they’re so young!

Im due the 17th so again baby will be a few weeks old and we are not doing presents ect. Don't get me wrong they will have a cute Christmas outfit and a picture under the tree but they have no understanding or concept of Christmas at a few weeks old and I won't be going massive next year either as they will have just turned 1 and still won't have an understanding but I will start adding little traditions like seeing santa and putting cookies out and going to look at the Christmas lights! You are not a monster at all and how you choose to parent and celebrate holidays is complete up to you! Xxx

I am buying a few sensory toys for baby even though she will be only a week or two old but this is mainly to get my three year old involved with baby and make it as normal as possible for him

My C-section is on the 17th I’m sooo excited for Christmas mostly for my son he’ll be 2 1/2. Both me and my partner are off work! (I’m a nurse and have to work over Christmas usually) We’re planning to go to my mums so I can chill. We’ve bought baby a couple of things that they’ll need just so my son doesn’t think baby has been left out. More excited for next year cause I’ll be recovered and we can still pretend it’s baby’s 1st Christmas and I’ll still be off work 😅😅

No haha. They don't need anything , they will have just been bought everhthjng they need! Plus they havent got a clue whats going on! Im only getting her an Xmas outfit and a couple pram toys/ teddies because I've got other kids that will wonder why santa hasn't been for her! I know other family members etc will probably buy for her too so she snot left out, so I've asked for thjbgs for when she's a bit older when she can actually use them.

I’m not getting mine anything! Mines coming on 3rd December so he will be a few weeks. Iv spent enough on him already 🤣

We're not going huge either he will be afew weeks old we won't have a routine going or anything. If we were talking a couple of months it would be abit different I think.

Some of the things families say to pregnant mums to be are completely out of line, unsupportive & stupid. All your baby wants is your love and (if you’re breastfeeding) your boobs.

I plan on getting mine an Xmas eve box and a stocking and ahessian sack as I also have near 3 year old. ( birthday 5 days after Xmas and this one is due on the 12th) but if I didn't I'd probably just buy baby a little comforter and pram toy so i can mark the day but nothing major. They definitely won't know and probably will sleep through the whole day anyway.

I’m not doing presents this year for baby, I’m due on the 22nd so he may only be a few days old. The only thing I might do is get my 2 year old to choose a book/teddy to give to the baby from him.

My baby will be 2 days old and I’m just gonna do a small sock up for her with some baby toys for under 3 months. This Xmas will be for my almost 3 year old to enjoy

This year baby is getting all new bottles, nappies, soft toys, a whole new wardrobe, a new bed, a new push chair there’s no funds left for chrimbo 😅

No thats insane! You are a protective mom that is putting her baby first! We will likely not do anything major but will have stuff for my 2.5 year old to make it special.

How horrible of them to say that and make you feel this way. I’m so sorry. You can make Xmas as big or small as you want to. Please don’t let others guilt trio you. Baby won’t remember a thing & will just want a happy mama giving lots of cuddles. Not a load of ‘stuff’. I’m not leaving my house on Xmas and nobody is invited round 😂 enjoy it however you wish! X

I doubt I’ll even get the Christmas tree up this year let alone do gifts 😅

I may be reading this wrong, but reading it more like you won't want to be at a big gathering with all the family etc this Christmas? And will just do something small at home or something, is that right? If so, we are doing the same and just staying in, everyone expected we would spend Christmas with them like 20 people, parents, aunties, uncles cousins etc but with baby being so little we felt that wasn't sensible as they need to build up their immune system etc and it would be too overwhelming for us and our baby especially whilst Im still recovering from labour.

We want it to be just the three of us and maybe grandparents but outside that nobody.

@Cereena that's totally understandable and very similar to us. I think its sensible for baby too as they have no immunity and it is flu season so big gatherings are a bit much. Our family have also been funny about it and say we are being ridiculous. But we have to protect our little family now so it is what it is!

Someone had a pop at me for saying I'd rather they didn't kiss the baby when he's born....like excuse you my child my decision, can't respect it please don't come

We have made a no visitors for 6 weeks rule because noone was respecting our boundaries and kept making it clear they didn't think it was important. So we felt it was better this way than constantly feeling panicked when people are round and they try to break our rules. The rules are there to protect the baby.

I'm due on the 15th and I love with my mum and brother and my partner has moved in like a year ago and his family are getting weird because I'm not taking my newborn to their house for boxing day!! 😕 I don't want to go and my partner agrees as well too many people and need to protect her from flu's and viruses 😒 why won't they get it!

Jo, the excuse I wad given is it's my grandbaby, nephew, cousin bla bla...we are protecting him especially seeing as my family go see grandma alot who's in a care home...

My family see my cousins a lot and they are teens at school, so they're always getting bugs! That's our main reason for it

I’m not really doing anything for Christmas tbh! Have told my family I won’t be having visitors or going anywhere Christmas Day. Will be spending it with my partner and older child in our PJs on the sofa watching Christmas films and we’ve even said we might all just order a takeaway instead of a Christmas dinner as none of us are that fussed anyway lol Baby won’t be getting any presents, I’ve just spent thousands on them before birth and they have everything they could possibly need plus they won’t even know what day and night is yet let alone what Christmas is lol x

I’ve told no one to buy my baby anything for Xmas, as she’s due 2/12 but I’ve got her a stocking a coat and a sitting toy but only because I have a 7 year old who is a strong believer in Santa but it’s things I needed to get the baby anyway so it’s just wrapped up teething toys etc. but I wouldn’t be wasting money on Xmas presents for a baby who’s a matter of a weeks old xx
