I did a light breakfast before I had to drink the drink because they will be drawing blood so you want to have some nutrients in your system. The last time I had to do a early glucose test around June and I did not eat and the person that drew my blood told me next time I need to eat something before I take the test . Me personally I loved the drink lol I drank mine so fast ,the nurse that gave it to me said no one has ever drunk this drink as fast as me . I would drink it at home if I could 🤣🤣
If you do the test fasted you’ll get the most accurate results! You don’t really want to “beat the test” since you want to know if any intervention is necessary. If your test is later and you need to eat, focus on balanced meals before having to drink the glucose drink. As a reminder, GD is not your fault!!! No matter the outcome, you got this ❤️
Unless your OB specifically tells you not to, yes, definitely eat a balanced meal beforehand! Nothing sugary or carb heavy like a donut or anything, but prioritize protein.
i was told to fast for both tests i’ve taken in my pregnancies, (1hr test) definitely was hungry before and after & drink made me feel weird but 🤷🏽♀️ just following orders
My doctor did recommend for me to eat breakfast beforehand, but nothing later than one hour before test. Something high in protein, and no sugary foods. I had whole grain toast with eggs and cheese. I got normal results.
I took mine today I went early to go get it done I did have a cheese stick and 2 crackers and water because I didn’t want to be super hungry 30min after I had my test I passed it everything was fine. But this time around they told me not to drink anything not even water after drinking the glucose drink which was awful. I think if I would have had empty stomach I would have puked because I’ve been getting a lot of heart burn. So if you have a choice to eat something do so something light eggs are good choice I just didn’t have time.
They told me to eat a normal breakfast so naturally I ate a Chick-fil-A biscuit before because I was starving .. I call that a lapse in judgement on my part. I did not pass. Now I have to go in for a 3 hour test.. Don’t do what I did😂
I had a normal day ate breakfast lunch even had a snack before I went in. Passed my test.
I had GD with my daughter as well and failed the tests really really horribly. I used to drink Ensure Plus shakes for breakfast every single day on my way to work and had meals that consisted of just frozen ravioli. Changed all of that completely, now making my own shakes with spinach, protein powder, hemp seeds, frozen avocado and almond milk and always have my meals beginning with veggies and it’s worked wonderfully. I had to take the 3-hour test after getting a 138 on the one hour non-fasting test and that one I passed really well. I would probably have had avocado and eggs for breakfast instead of my shake to have passed the first one since my protein powder does have banana powder in it, thus carbs and some natural sugar from it, probably raising my glucose a bit and not allowing me get below 129 which was needed as per my OB’s office to pass it.
I fasted and passed
I had a breakfast that focused on protein, so eggs and sausage and then I had about 20 min to spare while I was waiting to get my labs drawn so I went on a little walk outside. I also made sure to balance my meals leading up to the test, making sure I got enough protein and not going too hard on sugary snacks. That seemed to have helped, I passed mine a few weeks ago. Hope yours goes well!!
They told me I had to fast from midnight the night before and my appt was at 9am!
I had avocado on wheat toast and hard boiled eggs and was requested to do the 3hr test since my results were slight elevated however I opted out and am instead choosing to do at home glucose testing for 2 weeks because I REFUSE to put myself thru anymore of that testing.
My doctor recommended I fasted for 10 hours prior and didn’t drink any liquids or water (best way to do this is go in first thing when you wake up and get ready for the day so you’ve technically fasted for free lol!)

You aren’t supposed to eat before. But make sure you have something to eat after.
I have mine tomorrow and they told me not to eat or drink anything other than water past midnight
My doc told me to have a small breakfast, eggs and cheese, so it’s easier on your stomach when you drink that glucose. But no sugar or carbs. I did that, everything went ok.
