@Fatima this really isn’t true. Only about 25% of people fail the one hour screen for GD. That said, the bar is purposely set low in an effort to catch as many possible that have GD and to minimize false negatives. Op- I do recommend scheduling and completing the three hour diagnostic tool as it is important for your doctor to be aware of any GD and that way you can manage together. You’re right, diet may be fine, but better to be safe!!
@Claire Good to know! I hadn’t looked at the statistics, but that’s what my OBGYN had said so I took it at face value.
I had gastric bypass and was told I absolutely could not do the oral glucose test. Especially not the 3 hr one. It can cause severe dumping syndrome. Ask to do daily checks for 7 days. You will need to get 4 BS readings a day. That's what I ended up doing
Most people “fail” the initial 1-hour screening. 3-hour is confirmatory of GDM. I failed my initial screening too, but the 3 hour came back normal (in fact, I got hypoglycemic after it because my system was flooded with insulin). I hate taking that test (it makes me sick) and my OBGYN wants me to do it every month 😫 I eat very clean and walk regularly, but unfortunately, pregnancy is a hyperglycemic state so a lot of people develop it temporarily so I’m not worrying about it too much. There’s only so much that’s in our hands.
