Getting out of drinking

Is anyone else struggling with telling people why your not drinking or eating certain foods? We choose not to tell anyone (even parents) until after our 1st private scan - I’m terrified it’s not going to happen, so thought it would be easier this way - but I seem to have plans every week which would involve alcohol or food we shouldn’t have, and the lying is really getting to me. I’m doing my best, but as soon as I say their first response is am I pregnant 🙈

I have been saying that I drank too much the day before and am hanging beyond belief 😂 nobody makes a hungover person drink it’s just cruel! haha we also have cancelled the odd thing or made morning plans with people 🫣

Oh I like that line! I think I am going to need to move things to a morning date to, I didn’t realise how tough it would be to keep this from people

I say that I'm doing a skin treatment (I've had acne since being pregnant haha) and therefore can't have some foods (when relevant to mention) and any alcohol

Could say you’re on antibiotics or doing a liver cleanse 🤣

I’ve said I can’t drink with the medicine I’m on at the moment, no one has questioned it so far :)

I even went so far as to bring non-alcoholic canned beer to a company social event and swapped it out for the alcoholic version in the bathroom.🤣I didn’t want to leave even the slightest chance for suspicion. Another trick is just to walk around with a glass of wine in hand—lifting it to your mouth but never actually drinking.

My go to line has been that I’m suffering really badly with heartburn and doing an exclusion diet, as I have honestly been suffering, but the inquisition and peer pressure has been real, it’s like all my friends have turned in 16 year olds again 😂

Also important tip: never say you’re on antibiotics! Everyone knows that excuse. You might as well just say you’re pregnant!🙃

Migraine! Say first thing that morning you have a migraine coming on and that your gunna try to sleep it off and will let them know in a bit if you can make it, then “power through” and go but obviously not drink as you don’t want to make the migraine worse 😂

Ive been drinking “G&T’s” just tonic without the gin! Even asked the bartender to make it look like a normal G&T and nobody would ever be able to tell the difference. Then once a friend bought me a round which I tipped away in the toilets, filled up my glass with water! Easy to do on houseparties as well, just make your own drink and leave out the gin

This month I've handily been "doing Sober October"...not sure what my excuse is going to be for November though!

I’m really struggling with this. We currently have my in laws staying with us for 10 days and said we want to do a bit of a detox before Christmas and I don’t think they suspect anything, but it’s been really tricky with colleagues as we often go to the pub after the office. I faked a headache once to stay on the soft drinks, and said I was tired and opted out of going out another time, but there’s only so many excuses I can come up with. Definitely wish I had gone with something like medicines from the start or anything else that would apply to more than just one night! I think I am going to tell at least my manager as I’m finding the lying really stressful.

@Caterina that’s exactly the same as me, I’m starting to find it easier to cancel plans than lie, and wondering if I should just become a hermit 😂
