NIPT test

Has anyone gotten an NIPT test? I have basically begged for one at this point now that I’m almost 10 weeks because my sister has a rare disability and want to rule out any potential issues I may need to prepare for but it’s like my dr won’t take anything I say serious and told me we can maybe look into doing one 4-5 weeks from now but I feel that’s too long?! My insurance fully covers it so idk why she is refusing to do it I got a new dr now but that will take some time as well since my appointment is two weeks from now and I have to do a general assessment with her first before scheduling anything. Anybody have any suggestions? Can I go to the ER or private clinic for one?

My doctor offered it at the very first visit at 6w6d (to be done at my 11 weeks appointment). Not sure if it’s because I’m AMA, but I’ve known others who aren’t and they had it as well. I don’t understand why it’s something that your doctor wouldn’t want to do?! It’s non invasive and gives you basic solace. I don’t think ER will do it but maybe a private lab?

Girl my dr didn’t even know what it was when I mentioned it at first she said what is a NIPT test? I’m like ummmmmmm what do you mean ma’am you are the dr?! That’s why I am in the process of getting a new obgyn lol so hopefully they can get me in soon for one bc I am stressing hard😅

@Maya Michalski yeah that would have me looking for a new provider too! Instantly. That’s literally their job to be advising you.

I think it’s totally valid to get a new doctor when one is dismissing your legitimate concerns. Doctors dismissing (especially women) patient concerns can lead to real harm and injury.

@Nika do you know how it’s possible they offered it so early? I’ve always read you can’t get the NIPT before 10 weeks

@paula I won’t actually get it until 11 weeks, I meant it was offered at 6w6d, as OP mentioned it was even up for discussion 4-5 weeks from now by saying they would “look into it”. Mine is already booked.

They won’t do it until at least 10 weeks because before that dna is not detectable yet so they can not accurately screen you for what they test for with a nipt
