Dihydrocodeine? Advice?

My midwife has prescribed this to me, I’m 38 weeks pregnant and she has said I will not notice any reduced movements from this pain relief only if it’s used for a decent period of time and the baby can be sleepy when born. Has anyone else got any experience with this? Quite worried I will have reduced movements as I’m an anxious person at it is.

I had codeine for migraines from hypertension and it was fine. Baby was fine, movements were fine. I was 38-39 weeks.

I thought you weren't allowed to take anything other than Paracetamol for pain when pregnant? That's what I was told anyway.

I was prescribed this at 18 weeks from a doctor at Maternity triage. They are perfectly safe to take and can be taken alongside paracetamol (again, recommended by the doctor at Maternity). I haven’t needed them for RLP in a good few weeks but have needed the odd one every now and again for toothache after my filling fell out 😅 I’m now 30+3. I don’t experience any reduced movements when using these and they work wonders ☺️

I got prescribed them a couple of months ago as I have gallstones. Paracetamol obviously does nothing and they can’t do surgery when pregnant. I was sceptical too as I thought codeine was bad for the baby but I was reassured by the midwives and I also asked my sister who is a nurse and they’ve all said it’s regularly used, safe and common. I can’t say I have reduced movements. They make me feel trippy though so I don’t drive when I have one and they can make you constipated. Other than that they work well
