I had glucose in mine at 14 weeks (now 25) and got myself an early glucose test.. unfortunately I did have gestational diabetes and since then have been on a diet controlled, medication and insulin path. If you do have it you’ll be referred to the diabetic midwife team who are amazing and so helpful. They go through so much with you and give you all the Information you need.
If you have gestational diabetes and it’s diagnosed and picked up you’ll be absolutely fine as long as it’s managed with diet or medication. It’s not as scary as it seems!
Thanks everyone. I'm just so worried because she said my reading was very high and that GD can lead to birth defects so now I'm thinking the worst. I just about got over having a rough start to pregnancy with numerous bleeds and a previous miscarriage, now to have to worry about this. I'd do anything just to have a healthy baby in my arms and just now feel somethings going to go wrong
It’s just a risk if GD is not managed or picked up at all!! So many women have GD and it’s picked up literally a few weeks before birth sometimes and go on to have healthy babies! My previous pregnancy i had GD from 26 weeks and was managed with diet and medication and baby was absolutely fine! If you do have GD it’s good it’s picked up now so they can help you manage it x
Mine was picked up at 32 weeks and managed with diet. Baby is 15 months old absolutely healthy and normal! DONT WORRY X
Yeah I have gestational diabetes after testing in urine. That’s how they usually first identify. A small amount can be nothing but 3+ is very high (I’m assuming you didn’t eat a tub of sugar before they tested your urine). Don’t panic if you do have GD. Iv managed it by diet so far - it’s doable to keep any risks at a really minimal amount and not something you have caused or your fault. Not knowing about it and just letting your glucose levels run riot is where the risks lie.
There's a great Facebook group called Gestational Diabetes UK there's loads of support there. The main thing is knowing you have it so they can look after you and manage it. It's good they've picked it up now. I had GD in a past pregnancy ended up on insulin with it and my baby was perfect https://www.facebook.com/groups/gestationaldiabetesuk/?ref=share
I had glucose in mine at 25 weeks and have done a glucose test since and passed it. Don’t worry too much about if you have GD, you can manage it with diet and medication (likely metformin). It’s quite common, so they do know how it can be managed to avoid any complications.
