Lower levels of placental hormone PAPP-A can be (but are often not) associated with risks such as preeclampsia and fetal growth restriction. Usually women with low PAPP-A are monitored more closely and have growth scans (myself included). It's just another risk factor, but does not mean anything will go wrong. Most babies born to women with lower PAPP-A levels are healthy and a good size, but it's just prudent to be aware of the associated risks and take advantage of the opportunity to be monitored more closely. I'm surprised you weren't told straight after your 12 week bloods, as this is when it is flagged. But it shouldn't be an issue. 😊 I've got low PAPP-A and so far baby is measuring around 54th percentile and all is looking great. 🤞😊

I only found out because I rang up to see what an appointment was for on my notes and they said it was a scan and I was so confused to why and she said I had that.. I don’t know anything about it and I didn’t have it with my first. I don’t even know what my levels are or anything I can’t see them on my notes or how do I know what percenterline it is ?

OP, it's really not cool that no one gave you a call about it sooner. You'd be well within your rights to express concern at that - the health system has failed you on that front. However, I doubt it will ultimately make a difference. 😊 If all was good at your 20 week scan and things have been going well, maybe just focus on the positives and be assured that you are now getting the care you need? (I didn't have it with my first either) x

They informed me about low papp-a in the letter about the likelihood of Down's syndrome. It's only a short paragraph at the bottom, easy to miss and I was wondering why no-one called me about it as it seemed important to me. They recommend taking a low dosage of aspirin daily, maybe ask your midwife about whether or not this would still be useful. Like Claudia said though, it's just another risk factor and most babies born to women with lower papp-a levels are absolutely fine.

I was told I have low pap a - I was meant to be told at 12 week appointment after bloods but they didn’t tell me until 22 weeks and I should have been on aspirin the entire time. It’s not made any difference to me so far. Apart from extra growth scans. I’m 29 weeks of that helps xx
