Oh poor love, it is very confusing sometimes. Generally if you are given more or new meds they keep you in for a while to see how you respond. There are “ideal” blood pressure readings that everyone is aiming for but for some mums they are not achievable and then the team can set a new “ideal” for you. As for the steroids- they are not usually given after 34 weeks but again, it depends on local guidelines. Is your baby small? Or are you diabetic? Pregnancy induced hypertension (that’s what you have) or preeclampsia really suck, because the only treatment is delivery. What the team are trying to do is managing your symptoms. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. I would say, as heartbreaking as it is, prepare yourself for being in and out of hospital.
Yeah, I went for my 34-week midwife appointment and my blood pressure was through the roof. I spent 1 night in the hospital and left taking 4 labetalol a day and 1 nifedipine in the morning, I had to go back every 48 hours for a bp profile and monitoring. My waters broke at 36+4 ( I don't know if it's related to my blood pressure being high or not), and I had my son at 36+6. My blood pressure went back to normal as soon as he was born but I had to continue on the labetalol for about 2 months after, they just gradually dropped the dose
@Jana it really is so difficult! So they’ve said baby is growing normally and not too small or big, but yes I have gestational diabetes We’ve been in for a few days now and finally my BP is coming down to a better level so they’ve just told me I can go home 🙏🏼☺️ They will be monitoring me twice a week and booking another scan and consultant appt and plan to get us to 38 weeks before induction so that’s positive!
@Lauren sounds exactly the same as me! I’m now on 4 labetolol a day and 2 nifedipine as well. They want me in twice a week for monitoring! Wow that’s crazy your waters broke like that, but glad you delivered and hope everything was ok! I wonder if it did have anything to do with it. I’m glad you told me about them keeping you on the meds, so I’m prepared for that to happen too!
@Leanne I guess that’s the best outcome for now. Well done ❤️
They will likely try to keep baby in as long as it’s possibly safe for you both, whilst also giving you steroid injections in the event that baby needs to get out for both of your health and safety. If you respond to meds you might get to go home, if you don’t you could always ask to go home but they may ask you to come in for daily monitoring to keep an eye on you both.
