Pre eclampsia

When does pre eclampsia go after delivery? Will it ever go? Is it a gradual process or what actually happens? .. I am so worried about this medical issue. I am 6 days post birth.. and it's constantly on my mind and it's stealing a lot of my time with my son cause I'm just super worried about it.

My was slow process getting my blood pressure, literally fully discharge from doctor this week 4months after giving birth

It technically should go away right after delivery since it’s the placenta at the root cause. However, if you’re still having high blood pressure post delivery, you have post eclampsia (I also had this). It took probably 2 months for me to come off meds. It was a gradual process, but eventually it should go back to a normal range.

It depends on your body. I've heard about people who go on to have life long blood pressure problems. My first was worst and I was on blood pressure meds until about 2 months after my son was born. For my second pregnancy, it wasn't as bad, my blood pressures dropped down to normal levels within a week of birth. I've had a doctor tell me they don't expect any complications past 2 weeks post birth. As much as it can easily take over your mind as long as your doctors are relaxed about it, try your best to follow their lead.

It took me around 6 weeks for my blood pressure to go back to normal post birth. I had to take labetalol and slowly wean off it.

How do people know it goes away whilst still on medications? x Bit confused about that part

@Laura it’s a trial and error… my blood pressure started to actually go BELOW normal range with the dosage I was on coming out of the hospital, so then my doctor kept lowering it until it was no longer needed.

@Danielle @Laura what danielle said is right. Slowly your blood pressure goes back to normal. You don't want to take labetalol for a long time as it is a beta blocker. So the quicker you can wean yourself off of it, the better!

Ah okay, I haven't been told much about weaning off it at all currently. I am 1 week PP. Xx

@Laura your midwife should keep check blood pressure then GP will probably follow up in couple of weeks that happened with me

You often have to check blood pressure at home eith a blood pressure monitor if you haven't got a device, doctor will loan one

Thanks everyone ☺️ I will follow up with doctor next week and go from there.. thank you again xxx
