Baby’s heart

My beautiful baby’s heart has a few small holes in between the bottom left and right chamber. They detected in straight from birth and he’s now 14 weeks old and recently had it checked again at the hospital… they are not concerned by it and are saying there’s a good chance they will close on their own and that they won’t affect him at all. He’s a very happy baby and growing so well. Apparently it’s a fairly common. But I’m having extreme EXTREME anxiety about it and I wanted to see if any mums out there had anything similar in their little ones and if it affects them at all? Or if it closed up on their own and if so at what age were they? I’ve been told not to let myself get too anxious about it but I don’t know how to? It all sounds so scary, because we’re talking about his heart. He is so precious to me and I have panic attacks thinking of something happening to him in, in any aspect really. But this recent hospital appointment has made me an even more nervous mother than I already was. Any advice on how to cope with this anxiety? I’m sure every mother feels the same and runs through all kinds of awful scenarios in their head but I do it a lot and I hate it. Are other mothers feeling so incredibly happy but also so incredibly vulnerable now that the thing you love more than you thought possible and that your life now depends on, is this fragile baby.

I was born with a hole in my heart it closed but I do get heart skips but cardiologist says it’s normal they are not bad arrhythmia

I was born with a slightly bigger hole in my heart and drs said it would close. I never required surgery, I’m now 30yrs old with two of my own babies xx

My daughter was born with a small hole in her heart and have been told the same, not to worry about it and it should close on its own. We don’t even have a follow up booked until April x

If this helps I was born with 2 small holes in my heart! Not sure where or the specifics, would need to ask my mom but it hasnt ever affected me. Never been on medicine or had hospital stays. My mom says up until I started kindergarten I just had to go get checked by the pediatrician more often then my brothers (I think to monitor it). But now I'm 22 with perfect health and even had perfect health my whole pregnancy and postpartum. Dont worry too much even though I know its hard not to

I honestly don't have much knowledge about this.. however, a friend of mine was born with the same thing! However, when she was a baby, she has surgery (I believe within the first couple months of her life). She is now 26 and has only had one other operation at the age of 24. She's living life!

My daughter will be 3 next week and has a good sized hole in her heart! It has never affected her she’s honestly tougher and crazier than her older sister!!

I was born with a hole in my heart too! It never closed but never got bigger either. I never needed surgery and I’ve had a perfectly normal life all the way up to being able to play sports for 10 years and push a baby out lol. Just needs a little extra monitoring every three years but that’s not a bad thing

My nan has a hole in her heart, she was in her 70s when it was discovered and too old for surgery. She’s always been very healthy and active and has just turned 90!! On the anxiety side, if it’s affecting your day to day, reach out to a GP to get support. PP anxiety is pretty common, and they will be able to help. Best wishes to you and the baby!

I was born with a hole that never closed so I had a surgery when I was 6 years old. Besides using it as an excuse during PE not to go full strength I never had any issues.

My baby was born very early and had a hole in her heart, it didn’t heal up by itself but they just gave her paracetamol and that healed it up and now it’s completely gone. If the doctors aren’t worried and it’s not affecting her I would take that as a massive reassurance. They wouldn’t risk it with a baby, if they had any doubts they would be treating it x

My daughter has a small hole in her heart, it wasn't picked up until 14 days old and the wait then for the first scan was so nerve wracking! The doc said it was only small and should close and she'll have another scan at 6 months, so hopefully in a couple of weeks! I forget about it most the time. She does cough quite often, especially when upset, which I think might be related, as heart issues can cause coughing and lung problems too. Doc also said she might be prone to chest infections, but we've not had any so far thank goodness!
