Glucose test Orsett

Hi, I have booked my glucose tolerance test at Orsett Maternity GTT centre. Does anyone know what the process is? Do you just need to turn up with your blood test form, they take the first bloods, then give you the sugary drink and you wait around for a couple of hours before having another blood test? I booked the blood test via swift queue online so am just wondering if I’ve done the right thing! Thanks xx

I never had the drink there. Just went, had the blood test and left. Took 5 mins. You shouldn’t have anything but water before the test no tea/ Coffee etc x

Oh ok! Where did you go for the drink? X

Didn’t have to do the drink, it was just the blood test

I had mine done there and when you turn up you hand your form in and they’ll call you through for your first blood test. You have to fast the whole time as well so make sure you haven’t eaten or drank anything! They will then give you the drink after your first blood test and you have to drink that in the room with them and then a drink of water again in the room. You go out in the waiting room wait an hour and then they call you back in for another blood test. Then back out again for an hour. No water or food again and then you get called back in for your last blood test! Xx

Also forgot to mention I booked mine of swiftqueue and you just need to make sure you booked it as a glucose test not a normal blood test! So I got 3 emails/texts with times for all 3 blood tests x

Ah that’s so helpful thanks Sarah!! When I booked on swift queue I did choose the glucose blood test and then I got 3 emails for more blood tests one hour after each other so I was really confused and just wasn’t sure if I’d booked it correctly😂 but sounds like I have! Thank you ☺️ xxx

Yeah it’s so confusing I thought the same when I booked it! Make sure you take something to do though because you’re there 3 hours and can’t eat or drink and need to stay nearby to make sure you don’t miss your call! Also if you are sick then you can’t carry on with the test and have to book it in again for another time! X X

I wonder why mine was just a blood test no drink. I went all prepared as well. I was positive for GD too x

@Sarah Will deffo bring a book! Oh jeez, is the drink that bad it can make you sick? 😅 thanks for the heads up about that! X

@Dee yeah that’s so strange! Good you still got checked and found out! I hope you’re doing okay! Xx

@Hannah yes i had my baby nearly 2 years ago maybe it changed since then! But i was expecting a long wait and was in and out

For me it was more the fasting tbh! And I only started to feel sick in like the last 30 mins before the last blood test but hopefully you will be fine! The drink isn’t too bad tbf - fairly pleasant tasting but it’s just quite thick xx

@Dee oh perhaps! Things do seem to change quickly on the nhs 😂 glad you’re all okay now 🥰

@Sarah Yeah it’ll probably be the fasting that would make me feel sicky too! I’ll have to pop an alarm on the night before to remind myself to stop snacking 😆 xx
