There was a period of time my little would only eat banana and plain toast. He could feed himself but I kept offering other things on his plate as well as his safe foods. I’d make a smoothie for him (loaded with veg/superfoods and of course banana) which he’d drink sometimes. You’re not a bad mama at all! It’s frustrating but keep offering a variety as well as safe foods, try cooking things in different ways and experimenting with smoothies.
@Natalie all he eats is rice and chicken. Breakfast consists of baby oatmeal but all this is to say he sometimes spits everything out. I've tried letting him feed himself but he tends to just throw food onto the floor - less in his mouth more on the floor. So I feed him
When serving rice and chicken I'd add a vegetable so it's being offered. He won't learn to feed himself if he's not given the opportunity. When they first start learning the skill throwing things on the floor is completely normal. It's something you just have to wait out unfortunately.
definitely continue to offer, and if your more concerned about getting it in his body, hide em in his food! I make ground chicken patties and roughly puree some veggies like peas, spinach, grated zuchini etc. I'll mix it in with the ground chicken, add some breadcrumbs and an egg and bake them. She likes when I break the pattie up and mix it with brown rice. Similarly I will make bolognese with hidden veggies. So sear ground beef until just browned, add jar of tomato sauce, bring to a sizzle, and then roughly puree those same veggies or whatever I have on hand and add to the sauce. Serve with pasta or garlic bread. I always offer fruits and veggies whole, sometimes she completely ignores but randomly she will give it a try. And I'm lazy about the veggies honestly because she usually rejects them so it's hard to keep doing it, so I do when I have the motivation, but don't beat yourself up!
Not a crappy mum at all. Toddlers like to take control especially when it comes to food. It's your responsibility to serve the food but it's on him to choose what he eats. We can't force them to eat something. My daughter is a bit older now but hasn't really eaten veg since she turned one (At least at home) Keep offering new foods alongside foods he likes. How does he eat at the moment? Do you feed him?
