Housing

Anyone have any advice on housing via the council? I live at home with my parents in a tiny room me and my baby can barely move around with the cot and everything in here. I have to pay rent to live here and it is majority of my benefits money. I’ve spoken to the council while i was pregnant around 20-25 weeks and they just pawned me off. I told them I’ll be homeless due to not paying rent because I want to keep my money to live comfortably with my baby. They pawned me off and told me to find private housing & they will help pay majority of the rent. I know private housing is very expensive and difficult due to a lot of slumlords being out there. I don’t want to put my baby in a bad predicament when we’ve been living comfortably at home but we need our independence and I need space.

Ealing council will push for you to go into the private renting. If you’re homeless with no where else to go they have no choice but to house you in temporary accommodation which could be anything. Once your in temporary accommodation they will make a final decision wether they owe you a duty of care, if they do acknowledge duty of care they will help with long term housing, you will be able to bid in the meantime and they will also can offer more permanent accommodation with out you bidding. Permanent housing will be along way a way could take up to 5 years or more and they also could move you out the ealing borough.
