Freebirth

Anyone had a freebirth in this group? Baby is due 18th December and I've had nothing to do with the NHS, been checking my own blood pressure and sugar, had a pretty stress-free pregnancy without unnecessary interventions from midwives x

i haven’t, but do you follow @freebirthsociety on instagram? i love their podcast

@Izzie Yessss this is one of the first podcasts I listened to which made me want to freebirth! I also have an amazing birth keeper supporting me 🥰

I had my first freebirth Aug 2023 and it was so empowering and intimate! Only had my mom and husband there

I had a planned home birth that turned into a free birth if that counts. My home birth was the best out of my 3 births. The other two were in the hospital/inductions

@Reiya that’s so great! wishing you the best with your pregnancy and birth ❤️

What is a free birth? X

@Kyrstin Amazing! Congratulations! X

@Minnie Everyone I've spoken to has said the same about their homebirth being the best! ❤️

@Steph A freebirth is when you make to a choice to listen to your body and intuition over a midwife/doctor, and you birth outside of the system x It's not for everyone, but I've had so many friends who've had traumatic births at the hand of the NHS, which can affect your mental health for years! So I made the decision to take birth into my own hands x

Not a freebirth but both of my births were midwife led with no interventions. During my second birth, I guided my son's head out myself. I felt that going to a midwife led unit was the best of both worlds for me personally. X

Yes, with my second one this year! I was registered for a home birth and didn't mention I was going it alone😄 It was just me in my bathroom and my mum waiting outside, the rest of the family asleep. It was the most incredible experience of my life. Without people bothering me I was able to focus on moving through the contractions and instead of the pain it was more of an intensity. As soon as I tried to focus externally, the pain would return. Active labour was just around two hours. I called the midwife after I birthed the placenta just to get the baby checked over and to avoid getting into any legal hurdles. They were very respectful about it. I'm not sure what the logistics are of registering a baby after a wild pregnancy, but I applaud your courage! Wish you a good labour and a healthy baby😉

I’ve not done it (still pregnant with my first!) but a friend recommended this book “The Birthkeepers: reclaiming an ancient tradition” by Veronika Sophia Robinson. What you mention Alex is true - if you freebirth then you must report the birth within 36 hours (this is different than registering the baby with their name etc) I don’t know if I will do the freebirth but I was also thinking that if I do I’ll call the midwife once baby is born to report it/get the baby checked over

Just curious why would you opt for this? I had a perfectly healthy pregnancy no complications but ended up having a csection that saved mine and my daughters life. I wouldn’t be here if I opted for a free birth ? Is there more pros to this? I don’t quite understand

What about getting in touch with a doula? 🥰

@Tabitha even if you decide to free birth you can go to the hospital at any point or call an ambulance if needed. If a c section is needed it can still be done even if labour was begun as a free birth. If you are low risk some women find it less stressful and easier to give birth at home without intervention

@Kathryn Yes exactly! I wouldn't put mine or babies life at risk if there was a TRUE emergency (although there aren't actually that may true emergencies these days, most emergencies are stemmed from unnecessary interventions from the hospital) Regardless myself and my doula knows what to watch out for 😊 x

@Reiya you know what the amount of times I’ve felt like I needed to push in previous pregnancies and been told no is unreal xx
