Dentist

Hello, im 31 weeks pregnant and due to have a dental procedure this afternoon and require a anaesthetic to numb the area. My dentist has told me its safe and wont harm the baby, but my anxiety is through the roof. Has anyone else had a dental anaesthetic during pregnancy or know if its safe?

I’ve had it about 3x now because my teeth deteriorated so quickly this pregnancy due to excessive sickness. I’d never had a dental procedure before 🥲 I have a needle phobia and am a massive hypochondriac too but I spoke to all my midwives beforehand and they assured me that it was safe and that it’s actually more risky to leave it as your teeth can get so much worse during pregnancy

@Marria🇵🇸 thank you so much! The dentist said it was safer to have it done now then risk an infection later in pregnancy. The stress of it all is too much but i dont want it to get worse 😫

Yeah absolutely fine. I’ve had fillings due to having severe HG and not being able to brush my teeth. I did decline x rays though which is something you should consider as I know it’s not fully recommended when pregnant xx

@Laura yeah he told me he wont xray and i will have to back after baby is born to check the work has been done. Thank you x

Yeah, I needed dental work and confirmed with my obstetrician it’s safe beforehand

Yeah I was a dental nurse, and it should be totally safe! Shouldn’t even cross the placenta as it’s a local anaesthetic c

I had a filling at like 18 weeks, just local anaesthetic which was fine
