Eating dates

Has anybody seen any benefits to eating dates during the last few weeks of pregnancy? I can start eating them this week and was just curious. Also how did you eat them? And how many?

I had six a day with natural peanut butter. I was induced and the nurses explained it’s usually 1cm per hour but I dilated to 10 in just 4 hours. I don’t know if the dates/raspberry tea helped or if my body would’ve done it anyways. 🤷🏻‍♀️

It didn’t help me. I would have 5-6 blended into a smoothie. They are good for you tho! My labor was 32 hours long so it didn’t “soften my cervix” 😭

They were my biggest pregnancy craving so I ate them from day one lol the last week or 2 I was up to at least 15 a day. For my first I had to be induced early so I wouldn’t say it really helped that time but with my second I did have a spontaneous labour that went relatively quick once I started dilating which I was happy about

I ate them and went into labor very close to my due date.

I was 38 weeks pregnant and felt like it was too late to start them, the night I went into labor I had 7 dates and raspberry leaf tea right before dinner, went to the hospital that night, when they checked me I was already 8cm everything happened so quick. I think that’s proof enough, but everyone’s different.

I think the biggest misconception is that they start labour They don't They soften your cervix which can make labour quicker I ate them and had two very quick labours

I ate them with both pregnancies and had quick labors both times! Don’t know if that was why though - I also drank rasberry tea

I ate them for weeks and didn't make a difference.

My cervix became softer with raspberry leaf tea I believe. I started drinking it around 30 weeks mark. At first cervix check at 37w I was dilated 1cm and was 50% effaced. Effacement is what we’re looking for. I did eat few dates but not consistently as they were too sweet for me. My labour was quick for the first pregnancy. 13 hours total. But could be just my body doing its thing!

Thanks everyone! With my first baby, I pushed for three hours and I ended up needing a c section, so I’m just trying to do everything to prepare my body. So I’m doing dates, raspberry leaf tea, using my ball, at 39 weeks, I’m getting a labor focused massage… I just really want to have a TOLAC/VBAC experience and not have to go through surgery again.
