I think it depends where you live? I got offered it freely about a month before my due date with my 1st, I didn’t even know it was a thing, I was a carrier but honestly don’t worry, just ask your midwife for a test xx
I’ve not been offered it but have ordered it online. I was tested around 16 weeks due to preterm clinic tests and it was negative but I think it’s recommend 5 weeks before birth x
@Linda Thank you! Did you have it at the end of a previous pregnancy too and what was the advice? I just have such a strong gut feeling this time it would be positive (but I could be wrong). I also wonder if a planned C is safer with a positive too, I’m already wondering whether I request one anyway (for other reasons) but this would be the real push but I feel like information is a bit all over the place about it all x
@Emma Thanks! I’m planning on bringing up the conversation early to try and push for it but I know testing should be closer to the time really x
@Rachel I’ve never asked before so it’ll be interesting to see what they say! X
Yes I was positive at the end of my last pregnancy. I had a water birth with an IV drip of antibiotics in my hand, it’s really nothing to worry about and not the reason to have a C-section.
@Linda Thank you xx
Please feel free to message me about this - I carry it and had to fight to get tested in my last pregnancy (just gonna assume I still have it this time). It’s quite rare to be able to get the test on the NHS. I think you have to have symptoms and highlight your concern about Strep B. And you’re gonna wanna have it around 36 weeks cause it can come and go. I have no symptoms so I don’t know about the discomfort. But my results have come back as positive for Strep B twice in the past.
