Anterior placenta

Hi ladies, I’m looking for some reassurance! I’ve done some googling (I really shouldn’t, I know 😭) and apparently having an anterior placenta increases likelihood of longer/more painful labour/c sections etc. if baby remains “back to back”. I do understand it can move upwards, and that they tend to move, so that they aren’t. Anywho, this has a really freaked me out and I think I’m looking for some reassurance. This is my first child, I’m only 13 weeks and freaked out about the pain of labour/birth 😩

No don’t worry, an anterior placenta does not affect your labour like that at all! When it says back to back, it is referring to the position of the baby (not the placenta). If your baby is back to back it can sometimes lead to those things (longer labour etc.) however this isn’t something you will know until much later in your pregnancy. It is unrelated to the position of the placenta. The only downside to an anterior placenta is that it may take a little longer for you to feel movements.

Can't help with the anterior placenta but my placenta was in a good place throughout and baby was back to back, cord wrapped around his neck twice and we ended up with an emergency c-section! Your risks of these might be higher but alot of the time we just don't know and can't predict these things so try not to worry yourself over it lovely. Giving birth is a wildly different experience for alot of people. Speak to your midwife if you are worrying about it alot I'm sure she will provide advice and reassurance x

Anterior placenta is nothing to worry about, you might feel baby movements a bit later than others bit there are no concerns or issues known due to a anterior placenta, my first I felt movements at 22 weeks. This pregnancy is felt movements at 17 weeks. Both anterior placentas xx

Anterior placenta is 50% of pregnancies. Nothing to worry about

Obviously each pregnancy and labor are different but I just have birth to my first a few weeks ago and I had an anterior placenta at all my ultrasounds, my labor was only 5 hours. I also googled a lot during my pregnancy and I would just say be careful! Anything you see on google is trying to put a “normal” guideline on a very unique and unpredictable experience, I almost completely gave up on my birth preferences because of what I thought was supposed to be normal

Everyone’s labour is so different , I had anterior with my first and was in labour for 3days , cord wrapped round neck twice and she was partly blue when she came out but honestly I don’t think placenta has anything to do with it , all depends on person to person xx

Nah. Anterior placenta here, baby is 8 weeks old. Was all fine. No complications. Baby turned early, I felt her move fine. My labour was long and painful but it was long because my contractions didn't progress, nothing to do with placenta and tbh my labour followed the same track as my mothers when she had me and hers was posterior.

I had an anterior placenta and my labour was only 2 hours 20 minutes! Vaginal labour with only gas and air! First pregnancy as well! Don't let Google worry you although much easier said then done!

Thank you all, that’s super reassuring 😩💓. I think I need to stop my googling and just go straight to my midwife instead as I may just worry myself to death

I had an anterior placenta. My labour was 4 hours with gas and air only. You’ll be find xxx

Anterior placenta here! Baby remained back to back which ended in an emerge C-section

Never heard that before?? I had one.

I had that and I had to have a c section because if you go natural your placenta will come out first and baby won’t survive and it won’t go behind baby so you’ll have to have a c section
