@Heather It's so tough because there's SO MUCH media pressure around this time of year 😩
Oh yeah. There really is. And it doesn't get any better as they get older lol.
My little one is too young to worry about this yet, but I like the 8 present rule. Something you: Want (big ticket item) Need (practical gift) Wear Read (fun book) Learn (new hobby, something for school, book) Do (hands on item) Share (something to do together tickets, board game, an outing) And something for you (a keepsake from the year, an ornament, a journal, photo or photo album) It gives a nice limit for me and sets expectations for kids
We're going to stick to stockings only (so gifts stay small) AND eventually, I'd like to put donation boxes under the tree instead🎄 (food, clothes, toys). TBH I don't even want to start down the slippery slope of buying a bunch of presents 🎁 when all kids want to play with is the 📦 anyway... Everyone always seems so deflated post-Christmas and the return lines are insane! Hard pass for me.
We spend what we can but don't overdo it and we NEVER charge the presents. It's hard though. My 3 are 13, 10 tomorrow, and 8.
