Im an August baby, was great because weather was always warm, always off school. Downside was everyone was away for my parties and I was always last to do anything (driving/turning 18).
I have about 5 family members with August Birthdays. What do you mean you’ve heard the worst? Sorry for the ignorance!
I also have an August birthday and love it!! ☺️ I loved not being at school and the weather was always lovely. It was a bit rubbish being one of the youngest in the school year but it didn’t really affect anything because I’m not a drinker and didn’t mind being a passenger princess a bit longer 😂 I’m also excited to have a big bump to dress in summer clothes 😅
@Gabi oh this is great to hear and I’m glad you did enjoy! It’s a classic case of reading articles/hearing people say it and it got stuck in my head!
@Joty K Benning there are numerous articles/statistics etc that say statistically those born in August struggle more at school due to being a year behind the oldest when they start etc. the amount of posts on things like mumsnet saying they would avoid trying in case an August baby is huge
@Megan this sounds great and it’s helping me so much to hear positive stories! I’m right on the cusp with a 31 August due date 😂
My mum and uncle are born in August and both extremely successful business people, I also have two cousins both very good in school and work. So not sure. I guess yeah maybe but wouldn’t the same apply for July and early September. 🤷🏽♀️
Read some Emily Oster, it’ll make you feel lots better :) tends to only apply to those from homes who can’t support learning and opportunities etc. (Obama is an August baby and very accomplished/ intelligent) - there are also downsides to those born at start of school year as they’re often stuck with babies a year younger than them at preschool for a year when most other kids their age are in school already! :) don’t worry yourself x
You can push a child back a year if you feel they aren’t ready when born late August… that way they will be the oldest in the year
@Nik This is exactly what my husband and I discussed. We have the option to just push back the baby to the following year at school if they aren’t ready. We are due at the end of august so let’s see what happens.
I think the opposite, being an August baby must be fantastic, as long as the kid keeps up at school (and that’s really down to the parents as much as the kid). Agree with many of the other comments here - you’re gonna have lots of great summer bbq birthday parties!
@Nam there’s a lot of data to suggest this isn’t a good idea :) our August babies will be absolutely fine x
@Geo Thanks Geo! It’s just contingency planning to also make ourselves feel good. In reality, we just need to give everything to our baby to ensure it is ready and if not I guess baby’s learning curve will be steep :)
I actively wanted to try for a July/august baby! My edd is currently the 1st sept. But hoping we can get ourselves in the August month!!
I’m born in August and have always loved it! Never had to go to school on my birthday, and it’s far enough away from Christmas to spread out the presents. And apparently I was very ready to go to school, even though I was one of the youngest! I hated the lack of control with not knowing when I’d get pregnant too (although that was mainly because I was scared it would never happen)!
