Just be strong for them, momma... try to be there as much as you can and hold them if they allow you to, baby will feel your presence. My baby girl was born on 11/30 at 35 weeks, and they told me she was going to NICU because her lungs weren't fully developed. I couldn't go see her at first because they had me on magnesium sulfate for 24 hours and wouldn't let me get out of bed but daddy went to see her as much as possible and then when I finally was able to go see her, u went down there every time it was time to feed her. They told me they were going to keep her until her due date, which was January 4th, but I prayed and had hope for her. Even when they released me, I went every day and was there all day. They released her a week after she was born.

Similar to Gwendolyn. I was due 1/17, but had to have an emergency c section because of my blood pressure on 12/16 at 35 weeks. Baby had to go to the NICU because he wasn’t able to regulate his blood sugars yet. I was also on magnesium, so I wasn’t allowed down there for 24 hours, but my husband went and spent as much time as possible down there with him until I was able to go. He (and I) were both released 4.5 days later and he’s thriving!

@Gwendolyn this is my second child that’s been in the nicu. My oldest was delivered at 33 weeks and was in the nicu for 17 days because of his bilirubin levels. I lived at the nicu with him. My current newborn was born at 35 weeks but I knew he would be in the nicu because of medical concerns noticed while in utero. This nicu experience is totally different and difficult because I have 2 other children to care for at home along with the baby having to have a few surgeries
