Help!! HELP!!!

My 3yo son like five days ago midnight was screaming and crying in terror. He looked really scared, and he kept talking about “the scary things” in the room that I couldn’t see (“Don’t let the scary things get me.” “I don’t like those scary things” .” There are bugs in the bed” .” Snake coming out” .” They are bitting me) He refused to come in my arms and was climbing over our heads as if bugs were climbing on him) this episode lasted for more than 7 hours. Unless until he is busy he is good but as soon as he to go to bed or sit anywhere he is soo terrified to lay or sit anywhere as he sees bugs and snakes and spiders everywhere. He sleeps standing. I don’t know if he was hallucinating, or it’s something else. It really freaked me out, and I’m worried for him. Has anything like this happened to anyone else? What did you do? Should I be worried?

I’ve heard of this happening to people but I can’t remember what it’s called!!!!! 😩

It sounds like night terrors

@Siobhan that's different from night terrors.. and night terrors don't last that long. This is something completely different.

Sounds like visual hallucinations? Has he been sleeping okay up to that point? Is he usually afraid of bugs? This is something you need to talk to his doctor about and see what they say honestly.

Apparently it’s called acute phobic hallucinations and I found this study on them. It is older but maybe it will help. https://www.jaacap.org/article/S0002-7138(10)60020-9/pdf

@Kelsey i saw that too earlier and thought maybe this could be it.
