I’d do the helmet for him, don’t have him laying down too much if it’s not needed, and you can try rounding his head everyday for some minutes. Their heads arent as soft as when they are newborns but it’s worth a try
We haven’t done the helmet and our babies head has significantly improved through doing physiotherapy. There isn’t clear evidence helmets make a difference. It’s good they were honest with you about that. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/plagiocephaly-brachycephaly/
Did you go through your gp for the physiotherapy. It’s more the money side of things 3k is a lot of money and they want 50% of it upfront on Monday. I’m just not sure what best to do his other side looks completely fine
Our health visitor referred us for the physiotherapy. Did the consultant recommend any exercises?
No he didn’t, was your baby head similar?
Ours had plagiocephaly so he was flatter on one side.
I have 3 year old twins whose heads looked exactly like your baby when they were infants. We got DOC bands (helmets) and they worked wonders! I highly recommend. Their heads are perfectly round now. It was a lot of maintenance but well worth it. A girlfriend of mine had a baby a couple of weeks before I had my twins and her baby also had a flat head, she decided to not get the helmet and just let his head round out naturally but it never did.
Do you notice it much? Or not really? I’m just unsure what to do. They said the middle of the back of his head will eventually come out it’s more the side part of his head. Everything else is fine his face and forehead all have symmetry it’s just his head
Our baby’s was clearly noticeable at 6 months but you can barely tell now at 18 months. It has come out on both sides. If it is worse on one side I’m surprised they didn’t suggest physio as an option.
Does he roll yet? If not then try the Perfect Noggin - worked wonders for us!
Yes he now’s rolls and has just started sleeping on his sides also
I would also recommend the helmet. it's a huge pain and so much money I know, but I've seen a lot of people saying they helped and a lot of people who didn't do it and wish they had his bone developing at the back will help but my child had plagiocephaly and it doesn't help with the asymmetry much if you do go for it just keep it on all the time, I was pressured by my partner's family to remove it for a while from 6 months and it slowed it down considerably 😔 also get it ASAP if you're planning to because the rate was so much slower for us after 7 months
Do so many people really never hold their babies? It amazes me so many people allow this to happen to their babies when it's easily preventable
It’s not always from not holding your babies. My babies head was flat from birth because of how he was positioned in my womb and not having enough room because of his twin brother pushing against him. We did tummy time and he was carried literally all day and night or else he’d cry (I wasn’t able to do anything without having him on me) and his head was still flat lol. Smh.

My daughter just graduated from her helmet last month. It made a huge difference and I'm so glad we went with it, message me if you want to know more. I'm from London and went with Ahead4Babies
My advice is get the helmet! Our little girl was also in the severe category and similar to your little boy. She is 5 weeks into treatment and we are already seeing a difference. She started at 7.5months. Doesn't bother her at all and it's proving useful now she's starting to crawl & climb with providing some head protection. I know it's expensive but you won't regret it xx
I would take their advice and get the helmet. It would be worth it to try what they recommend.
