You’re not technically overdue yet. The max is about 42 weeks, but they will probably discuss induction/interventions by the start of 41 weeks.
Unless you have health concerns for you or baby, I wouldn’t allow them to push you into an induction. You and your baby know what is best and when is best. I went to 41 weeks with my last baby and all the while, I had nurses pushing me for an induction. In my opinion, induction goes against the body and mind and only ends with more medical interventions that (most of the time) lead to caesarean.
I do agree! I went to 40 weeks and had to get an induction due to medical issues with my last and ended up with a retained placenta and in theatre, it was so traumatising I don’t want that happening again so I definitely will be waiting to go natural, just curious to see how long they allow you to go over 😊
@Incognito, different hospitals will likely have different protocols they follow. I think most birthing places would like you to have had baby by 42 weeks. The longer bubs is in there, the bigger they’re getting, which could then cause other, unnecessary and somewhat avoidable issues to arise. I planned to be induced at 39+0. I had 2x membrane sweeps done. One at 37+5 and 38+5. Bub arrived almost exactly 12 hours after the second sweep. Even without the sweeps I highly doubt he would have made it to his due date.
Up to 41+2 from memory.
The earliest my hospital would schedule an induction is 41+2 unless medically necessary. But you can choose to wait longer as long as baby is okay
Most will say 42 weeks I went to 41+3 Then 40+3
Max 42 weeks, induction can be organied once 41+3. That's for low risk. If high risk, induction would likely be brought forward. All 3 of my babies went over my due date (please don't treat due date too seriously). The French even go as far as calculating pregnancies as being 41 weeks long. My first was born at 41+2, second at 40+5, 3rd at 40+2. All three were spontaneous, quick 'easy' births. I think that extra "cooking" time helped me and baby each time so once the time was right, everything happened quickly.
Amazing 🤗 when do they offer a stretch and sweep? Can you ask for that at 40 weeks?
I was offered my first stretch and sweep at 38 weeks
I asked for one close to 41, I’m sure they would probably do it at 40
Most hospitals I know of accept until you are 42 weeks. Some hospitals might allow you to go over but it's not recommended
