Advice to manage work

Hi everyone. I am 18 weeks pregnant. I have HG. The vomiting is under control with 3 different medicines. The nausea is getting better but there is room for improvement. I sleep a lot and get tired very quickly. I think this is because of the HG and also a side effect of some of the medicines. I can just about manage a half day of work but even that is subject to how I feel that day. I feel like I should take some time signed off work like maybe I’m 20 weeks. Things might get better. But I really don’t know. I feel sad that I can’t do my job as I would usually. Your advice and experience would be helpful

Hi! I was completely unable to do any work whatsoever, I wasn’t even able to care for myself, I had to take a leave and eventually quit my job because doctor wasn’t willing to extend the leave when I was not vomiting so much but I was so drained of everything that I was still useless and didn’t have any energy left in me to keep fighting to extend leaves and all that. So I quit. And when I did I had this extra stress released and that helped with anxiety a bit and I just focused on getting better (harder job than my chemist job). I understand not everyone is willing/can afford quitting, and I wouldn’t have done it if they had extended my leave as I needed without fighting it. I recommend you at least take the leave. I’m in the US. What country are you in?

Hi there, thanks for sharing. I’m in the United Kingdom. We have some allowance for leave. I think mentally it is hard to make that decision to go off work. But I think that I’ll need to do it for my health

Hey - I’m in the UK and I took off 2.5 months. We have that entitlement in the UK. Pregnancy related illnesses allow for that. You’re only talking about a few weeks. HG is the hardest illness - it’s amazing you’re even able to do what you’re doing. And at the end of this you need to parent a new baby. So girl get your rest. It’s important for you and it’s important for your baby 💕 sending so much love and healing vibes your way xxx

Thank you so much both. I’m very grateful for you sharing xxx
