5mg folate for MTHFR

Is anyone on 5mg folate due to their MTHFR polymorphism? Till what week were you told to take 5mg? I’m struggling to get an answer from my midwife. NHS guidelines suggest week 12, but I wonder whether it varies depending on a reason.

I have MTHFR mutation and I took folate throughout my entire pregnancy. I found a multivitamin that had folate instead of folic acid. Let me know if you want me to share the brand xx

My midwife actually told me from 8 weeks when she saw me 😊🙏🏻 I knew about the mutation and situation, but wasn't completely clued up on folate at the time, So I've been doing it from around 10 weeks x

@Riana thanks for sharing, were you told by a doctor to do that or is it your own initiative? I’m actually keen to stop it if I can as it makes me anxious which is a known side effect of methylfolate form.

https://www.nhs.uk/pregnancy/keeping-well/vitamins-supplements-and-nutrition/#folic If you have a higher chance of your pregnancy being affected by neural tube defects, you will be advised to take a higher dose of folic acid (5 milligrams). You will be advised to take this each day until you're 12 weeks pregnant.
