Baby rice or oats

Some family members have told me they gave their baby rice for babies mixed with milk before 6 months to fill them up and maybe sleep better? Has anyone done this yet or thought about it?

It’s not safe. This is for many reasons, starting with babies digestive system not being ready yet to digest food, but there were traces of cyanide found in baby rice that they are too young to deal with “Babies who ate rice cereals had higher concentrations of arsenic than those who didn't. Here's some advice for parents who are wondering if, why and when to consider feeding rice cereal to babies. Follow the “six-month” rule. Don't feed your baby rice cereal—or any other solid food—prior to six months of age.26 May 2016”

Unnecessary and a choking hazard if in the bottle. Hungry babies before 6 months just need more milk!

You can start weaning at 4 months as long as your baby is showing all the signs they are ready. There is baby rice and food from 4 months. I wouldn't recommend mixing stuff with milk. There is also no link between it and them sleeping better. My LO is 3 1/2 months and she is showing all the signs she is ready for food so we give her a couple of spoonfuls of 4-6month porridge just before her lunchtime milk

@Miriam six months rule isn't the advice given any more. Advice given is you can wean from 4 months as long as baby is showing all the signs that they are ready just no gluten until 6 months

Apparently the guidelines are about to change to 4-6 months. We have been giving baby porridge mixed with a bit of formula x

@Rose @Georgie what porridge do you both use? Xx

@Aimee I’m using Aptamil as it’s gluten free x

@Aimee Ella's Kitchen also do pouches of puree from 4 months
