Junk food - toddler

Do you think it’s better to give a toddler chicken wieners or have him never eat chicken? Mine eats everything except fish, chicken and meat. He loves fruits, beans, rice, eggs, toast, pizza etc. Husband feels like junk meat is better than no meat.

Just opt for getting protein from plant sources. Legumes (beans), quinoa (complete protein), tofu, hemp, broccoli, etc They’re plants that are high in protein. Also, dairy, if he will eat that.

Meat isn’t necessary - there are other sources of protein and other nutrients like Kassia has listed

I think it’s fine! My daughter loves breakfast sausages, bacon, deli turkey and ham. She doesn’t get hot dogs much but does love them as well as meatballs- maybe try making ground chicken meatballs? She’ll eat meats prepared in different ways sometimes but it isn’t guaranteed! She used to love eggs but now she won’t eat them. She used to not like veggies and now her favorite foods are cucumbers, cabbage, peas, carrots and edamame 😆 it changes a lot. I just keep offering stuff and hope that soon she’ll eat everything! She turned 2 in October if it helps.

Intaking any food, is better than never eating. (Especially when talkin on the topic of protein)

I don't think it's mandatory for our kids to eat everything. If he gets all his protein from beans, I don't see why it's needed to give junk chicken ?

well technically if its high in sodium and a lot of preservatives then best to leave it alone. but whatever works, i like chicken nuggets but are they really made out of chicken? lol

I did have to come back to say, toddlers typically have a phase where they go on “meat strike” it’s something about the texture I believe, but that’s why I say if there’s some form where it works, then it works.

Junk meat is deffo not better than no meat, especially if he eats other healthy things!

Nope, not necessary to give him junk meat.
