Leave in spray conditioner and a tangle teezer.. if that doesn't work then unfortunately it's the chop chop unless you can brush from the very ends to the top

Which brush are you using? We do tangle teezer and child's farm detangling spray. Can also recommend the my little Coco leave in conditioner spray for stopping the tangles getting too bad
