I made the mistake of letting my son try my tea 😂

I know kids aren’t allowed tea until they’re 12 because of the caffeine, but I’ve just come across rooibos tea which I think is organic and natural caffeine? Has anyone heard of this tea and know if my 2 year old could drink this or is it no different than normal tea?

No way…. This just happened to me too and she’s now got her own very very milky tea 🤣🤣🤦🏽‍♀️

You can get decaffeinated tea, maybe try that 😊

@Karen decaffeinated tea isn't safe, it's full of tannins which hinder iron absorption. Iron is extremely important to toddlers x

@Samantha oh I didn't realise that 😳, thanks for sharing.. I only know of adults who drink it, me and my little one don't drink tea so don't look deeply in to these things but that is good to know xx

@Samantha yeah this is why I didn’t even suggest decaf tea because I was told about all of that even after people saying it was safe for them to drink when it’s actually not, Rooibos I know is organic and all natural which is why I thought that might be a better alternative, thank you x

I'd do a little more research into possible side effects of ther herbs in it but it sounds like a very good option, we give my lg horlicks occasionally (sugar) and she's loves that. X

@Samantha yeah I’ll definitely look into it more before giving it to him, I currently give him hot chocolate which he loves so he’s still got something he likes even if he can’t have tea yet haha x

As a South African we were brought up on Rooibos from a very young age... we all still drink it in my family 😊 Mostly without milk though x

@Jess do you give it to your little one? X

I had actually completely forgotten about it till I saw your post... but she has a bit of a cold at the moment and it's got great healing properties so I'm definitely going to give it a go today... so thank you 😊

I’ve never heard that kids can’t have tea till 12🤦🏼‍♀️ my daughter used to have a tea every morning from about 1.5 she’s now 2.5 and has a hot chocolate now, I’ve told health visitors& midwife’s she loves her tea and noones ever said anything xx
