Membrane sweep

Wondering if any of you have had a membrane sweep and how it went? I’m 39 weeks tmmw and my doctor told me I can have a membrane sweep done but I’m kind of nervous. I’ve heard they can be painful but more so nervous of the risks/ if I should just keep waiting on baby boy to make his arrival without any intervention. Would love to hear your experiences !

Got mine at exactly 39 weeks both pregnancies and went into labor next day with both 💗

I had a sweep last week at 39 weeks! Wasn’t too painful, just like a rough cervical exam. Definitely doable. Had some cramping n light contractions but alas baby is still Insideeeee 😭

I think a sweep is a natural way to get things going

@🪷Faith🪷 was it painful for you, & did you start having contractions right away or? My first sons birthday is tmmw , same day as my doc appt🥲 so I’m nervous about going into labor on his bday.

@Stefanie that’s what my doctor said, it’s a way to get labor going if your body is ready but if it isn’t ready isn’t always a guarantee you’ll go into labor. So I’m super back and forth if I wanna do it or not!

I had 3 sweeps this pregnancy. The final one was on a Thursday my daughter was born that Sunday morning She was born 41+1 and my fourth baby.

@Brianne congratulations! From what I hear it’s pretty 50/50 and never know if it’ll work or not for sure

@Shelby it really we will only work if your body is ready to go into labor. Just like all of those other things that people recommend sex pumping all those things will only work if your body is really truly ready

I got mine at 39weeks5days at 11:30am on the 16th and my son was delivered the next day at 2am the 17th! It works!!!!

But I will say with my oldest it took 2 days to put me into labor

@Brianne yes so far sex and the miles circuit have not done anything for me speeding up labor, I haven’t even really been having contractions but my doc did say last week I was dilated to a 2 and like 60% effaced and would be “ready” for a membrane sweep if I wanted to

I had mine done at 38 weeks 2 days and for me it was painful but I went into labor that night and had my son the next day but everyone is different

@Shelby well if you are 60% effaced is say the sex is helping a bit!

I had the membrane sweep at exactly 40 weeks work my 3rd, it wasn't painful, just slight discomfort. I had no such luck with it and still ended up having to go through with my induction at 40w+4d
