My child has fallen into a corner bit of wood and bruised his cheek bone. Do I take him to A &E?

He’s 1 year old and it’s the bottom part of his wooden activity cube he’s fallen on, so hard corner of wood. He seems fine in himself but scared about fractures etc but surely he’d cry if that was the case? Need advice!

If you feel the need to take your child to A&E to be checked out then do that. In the meantime, give 111 a call & see what they say. They may send you to see an out of hours GP but, at least you'd still get your baby seen?🤷🏼‍♀️ When I had my firstborn, we were constantly at A&E for every bump just to be on the safe side.

Personally I wouldn’t go to A&E. He’d have to hit himself pretty hard to fracture his cheek bone. There’s been plenty of times where my little boy fell into things where he’d literally had an indent in his head and we never bothered and he’s fine. Children are a lot more resilient than we give them credit for. However, if you’re anxious about it and feel like you want to take him, do it. There’s no harm in taking him to get checked out

Thank you girls, I’m not sure what to do as he’s literally fine in himself but it’s quite swollen. I’ve been trying to take a pic of it but he won’t let me x

If its swollen, then I can see why you are worried. That would sway me to say get him checked out.

Call 111 if you're worried but this doesn't feel like an emergency to me.

@Caroline that’s why I’m asking for advice. It is if he’s fractured it

111 can help!

@Caroline he’s now asleep so I’m going to see how it is in the morning and go from there. If swelling is still bad will ring 111

Morning, how is your child today?

@Sarah🦄 morning! Thanks for asking, he’s absolutely fine the swelling has completely gone but it is bruised bless him x
