1 year old still won’t eat

My LB still wont take to any solids. He’ll barely accept a spoonful of puree a day and only very occasionally will bite into a baby wafer. Ive spoken to HV and they can’t suggest anything we haven’t tried - I’m at my wits end. He’s EBF and very demanding of the breast, he will take formula and a bottle so I’m thinking of switching him over so I can control and track better how much he’s consuming. And also so I can be a little less tethered to him aa he starts nursery in April. My question is, as he’s never been a formula fed baby, can anyone advise roughly how much should he be getting and how often? He’s 1 year old.

At this age most babies are down to 2-3 bottles a day, around 400-500ml but thats for babies who are also eating 3 meals and 1-2 snacks so he might be looking for a lot more than that, although if you cut out some milk you may find he eats some more, as long as he has water you’ll know hes getting fluids

My daughter is currently having 5oz when she wakes up in the morning and 7-8oz at bedtime. Occasionally if she’s not eating well she’ll have a 4oz bottle after her lunchtime nap around 2pm.

@CeeCee thank you that’s helpful. We’ve tried cutting down before but found it difficult to balance with BF and not knowing what he’s getting so hoping that we can slowly reduce with formula feeds x

@Cat yes it should definitely to be easier to cut them down and space them out 🤞🏼🤞🏼

@Cat I don't know about formula as my LB is EBF. We have naturally reduced the milk intake as the meals have gone up, and as long as he has been happy and content and continued to gain some weight, I have felt reasured. If your LB isn't eating, I would be mindful of reducing milk(breast or formula) as that is the only source of nutrition. A mum I know had a lot of difficulty with getting her oldest to eat, so they were suggested pombears as they dissolve as soon as they are in the mouth, and that worked for them. It might also be worth seeing if your HV can help get in contact with an SLT as they would be able to support with the feeding?

@Sara thank you. It was the HV who has been pushing to reduce milk but we’ve been reluctant for the reasons you mention above. The trouble is he wont let us put anything to his mouth and also wont put anything to his mouth himself, we’ve tried so many food types and approaches and unfortunately it doesn’t seem to make a difference in his case. SLT is a good suggestion though, I will look into that x

I'm also at my wits end with this, EBF baby also. We are teaching her BSL and she knows the sign for milk, so when she does the sign, rather than offering the breast, I offer her food but she still won't eat 😭 she's offered 3 meals a day aswell as snacks and she just wants breast! She CAN eat solid food but chooses not to. I'm hoping that when she goes to nursery, and has no other choice, I will see an improvement! 🤞 X
