Help!

My toddler has been so wasteful lately!! I make him a sandwich when he asks for one and then all of a sudden he doesn't want it and wants something else! I am trying to put my foot down but that just results in a temper tantrum from hell. I explain why he needs to eat what I make him but of course he doesn't fully understand that. I am at my wits end honestly. I love him so much but I am so frustrated 😫

I just keep redirecting to her leftover food. I do always give her 4-5 different things though and usually only half of stuff. That way we aren't wasting much.

I try to modify how much I make for what I think is best in the moment. Like I’ll make half a sandwich with just one slice of bread. If she’s truly playing games like asking for something then not touching it, I put it to the side and the next time she says she’s hungry or asks for a snack that is what I offer. Sometimes she’ll protest because she realizes she’s not able to get away with what she’s trying but when I hold the boundary and if she’s truly hungry, she comes around to eating it. I never ask or make her finish something just because I prepared it, because I do want her to learn how to listen to her body’s hungry cues. But I also don’t just prepare her something new the next time she’s hungry if there’s a perfectly good sandwich or plate of food from the last meal.

Tried different foods.

It’s a phase. Both of mine have done the same thing. My 2 year old is typically a vacuum and has been doing the same thing so I’ve been giving her more options with her meals in smaller portions. Like a snack tray almost. 🤷🏼‍♀️
