I crave nothing but sushi when im pregnant and am particularly fond of the raw salmon kind but wasn't comfortable with it. However, my local sushi joint has a smoked salmon roll that has it cut into thick chunks rather than thin slices and it definitely convinces my brain that it's raw. Maybe you can give that a try?

I would stick to the cooked fish only when I ate sushi and had it only a few times throughout my pregnancy I had a period of time where meat grossed me out and my dr said fish was fine so I ate salmon and other fish but again cooked I really don’t think in moderation it did much but that’s just me I also drink caffeine while pregnant or I get massive headaches my dr said it’s fine in moderation 🤷🏻‍♀️

My OB said no. My friend's OB said ok. A definite no is oysters.

I ate raw sushi when pregnant. I’m fine, I kind of just gave into what I wanted to eat. I recommend only sticking to cooked sushi. The logic I kept telling myself is that I’m Asian/ Pacific Islander and my ancestors have been eating raw fish for years I’m sure. It was probably completely unsafe. Eating it with lemon and wasabi thinking I ‘cooked’ it with acid wasn’t realistic. And even if nothing bad happens from it, you will have mom guilt about how you could’ve potentially hurt your baby.

I would stick to the no no no! On the other side i’ve been craving sushi for so long that i end up making my own one at home to be sure i would use safe ingredients & i only used cooked fish! 🫠

That is exactly it - I had raw sushi and now I am full of guilt. Why did I do that??!?!?

I ate salmon sushi’s as well as shrimp sushi’s

i would avoid sushi and stick to cooked fish as there’s a risk of listeria (which tbh the same risk is there for ice cream from the ice cream man) if you do decide to eat sushi just avoid the high mercury fish like shark/ sword fish ect and get it from somewhere clean

My doctor said it’s fine every now and then to eat raw sushi (few pieces here and there) as long as it’s from a reputable place. I still have not bc I’m too scared lol

I eat salmon sushi whenever we go get Japanese food. I have specific rules i follow, no more than 2-3 pieces and go for highest grade salmon sashimi as that is the safest.

I did eat it when I was about 8/9 weeks pregnant and felt so guilty so I stopped. I asked my midwife and she said no don't chance it, so I stuck with the cooked one from Tesco... Wasn't the same but it did the trick

I don’t think that the amount you eat will stop you from getting bacteria and parasites… if the fish is contaminated even a bite can affect you. I’m a chef and i’ve seen looooooots of reputable places handling food as any other places sssssso i wont risk it🙃 I’ve seen lots of mums eating everything, drinking alcohol, smoking etc as well and the baby came out fine anyway but that doesnt mean that the risk of complications is low! It’s totally up to you. At the end of the day avoiding certain foods (especially raw fish\meat) during pregnancy it’s not that big deal and it’s just a little effort to keep it safe until our baby is born ☺️💪🏼💞

I ate sushi, it’s ur own choice

Isn't it just the raw or high-mercury fish that's a concern? Not just sushi in general, right?

I did. Many people around the world eat raw fish while pregnant. Just choose fish that are low in mercury and make sure you're oure going to a reputable place for your sushi. I didn't eat it in my 1st trimester but I ate it twice in my 2nd trimester and about 3 times in my 3rd. My baby was born a few weeks early and was healthy!

Depends on your own comfort level and where you get it from. For me, I’ve had tuna tataki because it’s like a tuna steak. It’s sushi grade plus the outside is seared so that’s about as far “raw” as I’m willing to go. I’d also eat sushi rolls that were deep fried or contained cooked fish. Some of those satisfied my craving for it. Like I had a deep fried smoked salmon roll, and I also had smoked salmon on bagels a few times. I’d do it sparingly, and always very carefully. Inspect your food and the place you’re getting it from. So, basically don’t go eating gas station or Publix sushi lol. It should be from a place that specializes in raw fish and has a lot of customers, basically guaranteeing that their supply is always fresh because customers are eating it up and they have to order more frequently.

I did. I didn’t find out I was pregnant til about 4-5 months in so 🙃 I have a healthy and thriving two year old!
