Babysitters

How are you guys without family getting babysitters ? I’m in the UK, Manchester and don’t have anyone nearby. I’ve been thinking about hiring babysitters but I don’t trust anyone. Is there any sort of childcare like a nursery for kids as young as 3 months old? I only need an hour or 2 max. Like emergency childcare I don’t want to enrol her into a nursery. I’ve also got a 3 year old.

Hiya! We’re in Manchester too. Also zero family. This is a long shot. But we use Nuffield gym which have a Creche. They do 2 hours free a day for kids 3 and over or £6 an hour for under 3. You do have to be in the gym. But it has a cafe. We’ve been using their facilities for over a year now and the staff are amazing.

I have a nanny to look after my little one. She does part time 2 afternoons a week. There’s also some crèches which might work - I used one in Chorlton called My Time for a while

@Cassandra Thank you ! I just looked this up and found that the closest Nuffield gym with crèche is in Bolton ? I live near Piccadilly do you know if there’s anything closer? X

@Louise hi ! How did you find your nanny and how did you get over the fear of leaving your little one with a stranger ? X

I've hired a babysitter to come to the house once a week for 5 hours it gives me time to catch up on house chores, meal preps, admin stuff etc. But I'll be enrolling my toddler to nursery in April. I found her via WhatsApp gc

Contacted a few agencies and the Northern Nanny agency was the first one and most responsive to get back to me. They sent several CVs and we interviewed them all at home to see how they were with my child. All of them had well over 10 years experience as well. We were actually around a bit on the house at first - she was another pair of hands to help out around and we were nearby if needed but a lot of it is down to your gut feeling. I was the same at first. My daughter also goes to nursery as well but she only does mornings (8.30-1) and they were super flexible about whether she went for one half day, 2 etc. I felt more comfortable using a nanny agency who had vetted everyone etc than one of the apps like bubble but I know some friends have had success with that too.

Ah bugger. I think David Lloyd’s gym do Creche as well. Not sure on pricing etc though.

There’s a Nuffield crèche in East Didsbury

I agree 🤣 can’t seem to trust anyone with my child.

@Kiran ahh you’ve given me an idea! I could hire someone to take care of them whilst I’m still home and use that time to vet them whilst catching up on work until I feel comfortable enough to leave them alone with her

@Cassandra Yeahh I checked them out. Prices well over £100 per month just not in my budget 😅

@Someone’s Mom definitely doable, thank youuu!

Didsbury is the one I attend! The staff are fantastic. Ofsted accredited. Has a cafe to eat/chill/do work or can workout/do a class. Kids and yourself need a membership and the Creche does cost. I can let you know what we pay to give you an idea? xx
