Pre-K or not?

Hi, my son will be eligble to go to Pre-K starting this Fall. I really hope that he will get into State Pre-K because we have another baby on the way and will have an Au-Pair. If he doesn’t get into state Pre-K, i‘m thinking about leaving him home for a year since I don’t want to pay double. But i‘m worried that he might fall behind. What are your suggestions? Are you maybe even home with your toddler and have a „home school“ schedule/program?

I was thinking about doing this same thing, almost exact same circumstance. I have a baby due in August and my oldest starts pre k this year. I work from home and will be going back to school myself so I figured I may just home school him for pre-k. I never went to prek myself but my boy is smart as a whip so I’m ordering some things online, maybe even kindergarten material once I feel he’s got that down pack, I’m gonna introduce 1st grade. The goal is to incorporate his school into my work schedule so while I’m working he’s in “school” we take our lunch together… that sort of thing… of course this is all wishful thinking. But I also just had a baby in April so odds may not be in our favor but both of them can learn together

My daughter will be starting prek in August. We saw a huge positive impact on her going to a daycare that was play and academics based. I work at a school and we see a significant difference in students that go to prek vs does that do not. I highly recommend singing him up for prek. Registration should have begun already. The school I work in started registering students in November.

I'm enrolling my son in pre-k. I think it'll be really beneficial for him socially especially since he's never been in daycare. He also is more interested in learning and such and picks things up quicker with other kids around him doing the same things. I couldn't get him to talk a word until he made a friend who knew how to talk and some sign language and he picked it up quick. Plus it's a nice transition to get them ready for a school environment as well. I'm still a stay at home mom though doing online school and staying with my youngest who won't start pre-k for 2 more years.

Thank you Ladies for your perspectives. He is in daycare since he was 10months old so it would just be a year break. I‘m planning to have him go to a gymnastics class and continue play dates for being under other children. For development i guess it’s good to look into pre-k material. The lottery doesn’t open until Spring here and i‘m not sure by when i would know if he got in or not.

I'm a pre-k para and I encourage everyone to do pre-k. Ours is a half day Monday-Thursday program. You can definitely tell who was in pre-k and who wasn't when they get to kindergarten. Not only that but teaching social emotional lessons helps these kids so much. Being in a school setting for 3 hours really helps the adjustment when they start going all day in kindergarten.

Hmm okay. Did the children where you can tell ever go to a daycare before? His social emotional skills are pretty developed and he will still be under kids.
