Literally how me and my husband have been feeling. We're not loving the state of things over here and have really sat down and spoken about moving. We were thinking Aus (potentially move to Australian army) or somewhere out there like S.Korea or Japan. Cost of living is pence compared to here. Defo look at visas, timescales etc to see what you're working but I defo reccomned to go for it. I want to do it by 2030. Fingers crossed I can walk the walk and not just talk the talk haha! X
Husband is currently on month 4/6 of deployment and we have a 9m old. He’s signed off whilst out there as his promotion posting was Kinloss (our negative preference) so they massively f’d us over there!! We defo wasn’t prepared to move that far away (we are currently north York’s and all family is down south so already struggled on my own) and he’s struggled being away… we are in kind of the same situation where we want to get out of this life and have a deposit, but we want to buy down south!! Tbh the main thing for me was just getting out of this lifestyle, it’s not for me / us now we have a child and I cannot wait to just own a place, be a family and not worry about when he is going away next!!! I have family in Aus and I love it there, but cost of living is high We discussed moving but decided it’s for future and we are going to buy down south. It’s hard though buying, finding new jobs to pay for it, bridging the gap from leaving / moving, childcare omg list goes on!!
@Ali thank you for saying, we have family friends in Aus. But haven’t heard what it’s like currently to live there. Thank you I will if I have any more questions ☺️
@Jess I’m glad it’s not just us feeling the same about the UK. Husband has considered going to Australian army but has decided he wants to do something else, which I support. We are aware that sometimes can be delays with visa. 2030 is a good time scale! I’m sure you will do it 😊
@Kerry that’s so rubbish they gave a posting somewhere you didn’t want to go! It is ridiculous how they don’t listen.. and they wonder why people want to leave. We’re the opposite we’re south based in hampshire but hubby’s family in Yorkshire so hard getting support from family. It is hard on serving half too being away, but just as hard being left home with the kids with no support! Luckily I have a job that’s WFH and can keep my job with the moves. So hard trying to transition from family military life to civvy life! X
Abit of a curveball but why don’t you look at Poland? Honestly they have amazing schools, economy is always growing, lower costs for pretty much everything.
As an Australian now living in the UK for nearly 10 years, I’d stay in the UK. Australia isn’t going in a good direction either, especially around personal freedoms. Nor is New Zealand. Feel free to message me if you like.
