Trimethoprim and starting solids/food allergies
My son has just turned 6 months and I’m planning on starting him on solids. He has bilateral hydronephrosis and has been on trimethoprim since birth. I’ve heard that babies who have antibiotics prior to starting solids can sometimes be more likely to have food allergies. Can anyone share their experiences of starting solids/food allergies with their LOs who have also been taking trimethoprim or other antibiotic please? FTM and I’m nervous about starting solids as it is but with this additional worry, I’m really anxious! Any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated! TIA!

Hey! My son has been on antibiotics trimethoprim since birth due to dilated kidneys, hes now three and still on it. weaning him solids when he was 6months was easy, i havent suspected any allergies yet. I would suggest slowly and gradually see how it goes. My Inbox is open lovely xx

Hey! My little boy was on trimethoprim and he didn’t have any allergies, we also weren’t told he was more like to get them. I would suggest just doing what nhs recommend by giving them the same foods for a certain amount of time to rule out allergies. Hope the solid food goes well!!!
