Advice for a full time working mama.

Hi everyone, I’m looking for some advice from fellow mums who may have been in a similar situation. I work full time, my mum usually looks after my 14-month-old on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, while my mother-in-law watches him on Wednesdays. However, my mum will be traveling for a month, and I’d prefer not to have someone outside of the family care for him during this time while I work full-time. My mother-in-law has kindly agreed to take an extra day (Thursday), and my partner can cover Fridays, but I’m still left figuring out Mondays and Tuesdays. For those who may have been in a similar situation, how did you manage? Do you have any suggestions on what I could request from my employer to help navigate this month? Any advice or shared experiences would be really appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Are you able to condense your hours at work maybe?

I’m not sure if your job is one that could allow you to work remotely but perhaps you can ask to work from home on Mondays and Tuesdays for a month and in that month get a nanny/babysitter for those two days. That way, you will be around to have oversight of the babysitter?

You can either just use your holidays or take unpaid parents/dependents leave, would be the simplest option

Annual leave or unpaid parental leave (needs to be taken in 1 week blocks however) unpaid time off for dependants might not be accepted as its 'pre planned' and there's been time to make alternative arrangements. Might be worth being open with your manager about the situation and seeing if you could make any of the time back instead
