Solids

My boy is 13 months old. Still breastfeeding and refusing solids. How can I get him to eat more without creating a negative reaction? Because at this point it feels forceful trying. My body is exhausted, I selfishly want it back and him to eat something else. Any mommas been through this?

I'm not breastfeeding but my son doesn't like eating anything also 13 months. My health visitor is coming next week to my house and we are both going to try and feed him together. She will send me some recipes and I will make the food in advance of her coming. Why don't you reach out to your health visitor. I'm really looking forward to it and hoping it's the answer to my problems x

My daughter's still breastfeeding at 15 months but has a weight issue where we've had to be really on it with food. Our foods are 2-3 hours apart each time but our rough routine below Breastfeed Breakfast 3 plate divider - soft food (porridge, Weetabix, yogurt, cereal), fruit and a solid (pancake, toast, croissant, crumpet Snack - a fruit with a biscuit type thing (like apple and crackers etc) Breastfeed then a 3oz bottle of cows milk Nap Lunch - a proper meal containing protein, carbs, dairy, fruit, veg Snack - a protein with some dairy (chicken and cheese) Breastfeed Nap Dinner - a proper meal containing protein, carbs, dairy, fruit, veg Desert - a soft food (custard, jelly, yogurt, rice pudding, Ella's kitchen purees) Breastfeed Bedtime snack on late nights - banana Breastfeed Bed I offer really small portions so the plate isn't overwhelming. If she wants more I put more on her plate. I also find keeping each food separate helps her eat more so everything is deconstructed

Thank you both for sharing! I’m gonna try giving these a go. 🩵

Keep offering, before he nurses ideally so he’s more hungry. Several times a day, and keep your face neutral to excited but keep your tone calm. Offer a small amount so he doesn’t get overwhelmed by the food and just let him explore it his way. Vary the way you present it- puree one day, mashed, strips, cubes etc. my son won’t eat avocado spears but he’ll eat it mashed on toast! He’ll get there. I’m currently also breastfeeding and ready for my son to transition away from it. I feel your exhaustion You’re doing great

My son hated solids until I started giving his only a bit on his tray at a time. Maybe a full plate is overwhelming? Even now that he's 15 months I still don't put the plate on his tray I keep it on my lap and feed him from it or if his something he can hold ilnoffer it to him to hold and eat then put 2 pieces on his teat and wait til he's on the last one then add a couple more. He really likes using a fork for his fruit(I assume because he sees us using them all the time) so il give him the fork with a piece on it or leaclve it on the tray for him to grab and if he won't let go of the fork after eating it then il help him poke another piece onto it.
