Is this a new thing? Are they poorly or teething? X
He is at the tail end of a cold and has been forever teething. He's difficult to feed anyway as he's easily distracted but usually manage to get 700ml in him but the past few days we've struggled to get 400ml in him. And we've been weaning him on solids for 2 months and making absolutely no progress with it. @Grace @Sophie
It might be a cold, has he actually got any teeth? My little one gets really unsettled and off his food when a tooth is actually erupting, rather than just the process of teething in general. Yeah the distraction is hard when feeding at this age but it's just a phase they go through, it will stop eventually🤞. I know it's hard dealing with it in the moment though. As for weaning, it's just perseverance and loads of practice, some babies take to it straight away and some don't unfortunately x
@Sophie he has two teeth so far, another one might be on the way, I'm not sure. So it's normal? What do I do? If he were actually eating solids he's meant to have 600ml of milk a day now but he's not eating his solids and has had 450ml milk today. He's been on the 75th percentile fairly consistently. Regardless of how long we leave it, he never gives any hunger cues. Do I just stop stressing and go with it. It literally makes me feel ill with worry
Every baby has their own "normal", just continue to follow your babies lead, offer him something every couple of hours, if he wants it he will take it. He won't let himself starve. If you're really worried though it may be worth reaching out to your health visitor for some advice. But if he's following his centile, not dropping weight and happy then it sounds like he's fine x
@Sophie I've reached out to her but I assume she's swamped as she hasn't been very accessible. He gets like this sometimes, it's not consistent. This is the hardest he's fought against eating and it's my first child. It consumes every waking moment and I get so frustrated with him and it makes me hate being a mother sometimes
There's always a reason for their change in behaviour, same applies when they get to toddler age etc. Honestly sometimes we just put too much pressure on things ourselves and we make ourselves feel that way. I've been there and I had to learn the hard way and lower my expectations. I get it, I really do x
@Rosie we're on mam 3. There doesn't appear to be a size above this
There is lovely, Teat "X" x
Hey mama I think the others have left you with really good advice. All I want to say is that you're doing an amazing job and your baby is lucky to have a mama like you! There will be super tough days and some days which are easier, it's all part of the journey. Things will get easier just try and enjoy the process. Your baby won't starve! He will eventually enjoy his food and by the sounds of it he's a healthy baby just going through a phase! Don't let it get you down. Sending you lots of love xxx
Try not to stress over this too much, as if baby is hungry he will eat 🙂. My girl is 8.5 months and has been not having as much of her milk lately, this started when she became poorly with bronchiolitis! She has 4 x 6floz bottles a day, but often leaves the last 1-2 floz . She also has 2x solid meals a day, but again lately she's been fussy with it due to not being very well. I'm considering upping the teat size soon, as she's been on size 2 for ages now
Is this all the time or just as of recent? My little girl was poorly for about 2 weeks and even though she didn’t seem that bad in herself she really wasn’t drinking/eating like normal in that time! We ended up going to the GP and as soon as she got better she was back to her normal eating habits x
