How did you spend your day when going into labour?

Hello! So my midwife has put so much emphasis on staying home for as long as possible when I go into labour and I’m currently 37 weeks pregnant. Really keen to know how you all spent your day(s) once contractions started before heading to hospital 🙏🏼

I went into labour at 36+4 weeks just before midnight in 2023 and as soon as my waters went I rang the hospital and was told to come in even though I had no contractions or anything. My biggest bit of advice is rest as much as you can before you head into hospital and get any bits and bobs done if you can x

My waters broke and was sent home for a while before being able to go to the induction ward. I spent my time at home eating a takeaway, and playing minecraft on the playstation while in the bath 😂😂

My waters broke at 10pm whilst I was just chilling in bed so I rang the hospital and they told me to come in so they could check the waters and book an induction 24 hours later if I didn’t go into labour naturally they then sent me home until my contractions started and were close together. I was then back in hospital by like 2/3am because my contractions came pretty thick and fast, I then stayed until I had him at 4pm

@Julia hey, just wanted to ask if you had signs and symptoms of going into labour before the day? I’m 36 tomorrow 🫣 but I don’t feel like he’s coming anytime soon x

@Nishat I had really bad braxton hicks 2 days before and the day of my waters breaking I had absolutely no signs or symptoms that I was going to go into labour x

@Julia oh gosh so it could really be anytime! I get braxton hicks a lot in general and have been for a while so not sure that’s a sign for me unfortunately 🥲 x

My waters went around 9am while I was asleep, we called the triage line and they said to come in at 2pm. Contractions hadn’t started so they booked an induction for the next morning, I also had a stretch and sweep then sent home. Contractions started at 3pm. We had lunch, chilled out, finished getting bags ready, had a bath, bounced on a gym ball, took some paracetamol. Went back about 10pm when my contractions felt pretty bad (from the start mine were only about 30 sec apart but didn’t last a particularly long time). I was only 3cm and they suggested we go home, I was sure my contractions were too painful for that, thankfully my blood pressure was slightly high so was admitted and removed the decision. 3 hours later I was still only 3cm but 1 hour 30 after that my daughter was born. We firmly believe that if we had gone home we then wouldn’t have made it to the hospital before she was born. So I would say, yes it’s good to be home as long as possible, but don’t leave it too late

i spent almost all day bouncing on my yoga ball. did a few chores so the house would be clean , baked a cake to eat when we got home. mostly just relaxed and got my mind in a positive place for labor. i contracted at home for almost 12 hours, then had the baby about 10 hours after getting to the hospital

@Nishat I wouldn’t worry too much. I had braxton hicks for weeks before I went into labour x

I went in about 8 am after my waters broke to get checked and then sent home again to see if things progressed. I started feeling contractions about 12. I did a good shop, had dinner, bounced on my ball, watched the tv, had a shower. Headed into hospital about 10 on that day and baby was born 6am to e next day

Contractions started around 9pm for me after a full day of work. I watched trash TV all night with my poor, confused dog (who knew I was in pain, and was determined to guard me, no matter what). Took until lunchtime the following day for them to be frequent enough to be admitted… luckily, there is a lot of trash on Netflix…

Painting her room 😅 I didn’t know I was in labour lol I had a growth scan at 37 weeks and found out I was 3cm dialated then went home got my hospital bag sorted and was on my way to my mums but they got too close together and had to go to the hospital on the way

I stayed at work 🤣

39+ 3 weeks, my contractions started at around 3:30am, I called triage and was advised to stay home until contractions are 2 minutes apart, so I had a warm bath and then stayed at home until my waters broke around 2pm, went to the hospital and was 5cm dilated. Gave birth at 9:02pm that evening x

I didn't have the opportunity to labour at home, all my babies came really quickly 😅

My contractions started around 6pm the Sunday night. We watched TV, and then went to bed as usual. I didn't sleep 😅 and then we went to hospital about 6am and I was 4/5cm dilated.

Thank you everyone! This is all really helpful 💖

I had a back ache all day, didn't realize it was pre labor. But despite the aching back I was nesting hard 😆 trying to get stuff done and taking small breaks when I started hurting too much. I woke up around 2am from contractions, decided to have a bowl of cereal before waking my husband and going to the hospital. I was about 4cm dialated when they took me. My water didn't break until around 7am in the hospital. I am surprised to hear about waters breaking and being sent home 🤯
